Wow, haven't seen anything from him since I stopped watching Heroes. Glads to see he is in Star Wars.

Default "The Force Awakens" coming to D23 EXPO!!!!

D23 Expo 2015 takes place Aug. 14-16 at the Anaheim Convention Center near Disneyland Resort.

On Saturday morning, the Walt Disney Studios teases the live-action movies yet to come from Disney, Marvel and Lucasfilm.

Saturday morning’s Hall D23 presentation will provide sneak peeks at upcomings movies such as Tim Burton’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass” and Jon Favreau’s “The Jungle Book.” This presentation will also include upcoming films from Marvel and Lucasfilm, the latter of which releases "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" in December of this year.

Disney also announced these presentations will take place in the new, larger-capacity venue. “Hall D23,” located in Convention Center’s Hall D, will offer 7,500 seats.

[Abrams] said Lucas’s treatment had centered on very young characters – teenagers, Lucasfilm told me – which might have struck Disney executives as veering too close for comfort to ‘The Phantom Menace’ and its 9-year-old Anakin Skywalker and 13-year-old Queen Amidala. “We’ve made some departures” from Lucas’s ideas, Kennedy conceded, but only in “exactly the way you would in any development process.”

As Abrams and company worked on crafting a new story, the process didn’t always go so smoothly. Oscar-winner Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine) was initially hired to pen the screenplay, but later departed – paving the way for Abrams and Star Wars veteran Lawrence Kasdan to write the script. In the Vanity Fair article, Abrams explained that the two essentially started with a clean slate, as the final narrative still hadn’t been completed as early as November 2013:

“We didn’t have anything. There were a thousand people waiting for answers on things, and you couldn’t tell them anything except, ‘Yeah, that guy’s in it.’ That was about it. That was really all we knew.”
Luke & Leia were teenagers in A New Hope.

Nothing in this thread about the rumor on Max Van Sydow's character?

As far as official information, not just this thread, generally everywhere there is none. Only rumors about him being an old
[Show spoiler]half-robot that "have seen it all" from the prequel era until now, that's looking after Rey on Jakku.
There's some production artwork of him somewhere in this thread.

Here it is:

[Show spoiler]

The burn effect on that Vader's helmet is just like in the trailer.
[Show spoiler]He's also wildly rumored to be Boba Fett

He's obviously reprising his role as Ming The Merciless.

The rumor I read about Van Sydow was that
[Show spoiler]he was a star destroyer captain whose crew crash landed on a barren planet and were abandoned by the empire upon the defeat of the Emperor, so they started a new colonization on the planet and hate the empire
. Of course, that rumor seems to fit way too neatly with what was seen in the second teaser.

That may actually be legit especially like you said what we've seen in the trailer with that crashed Star Destroyer.

Either way I'm really looking forward to seeing him in the film.

He's a phenomenal actor.

Von Sydow will end up being a
[Show spoiler]former Grand Moff of the Empire who became disillusioned with Empire after he and his command were left abandoned and marooned (forsaken) on the desert planet we see at the beginning of the newest trailer. The Boba Fett thing is laughable.

Like I said, no official information. Just rumors. So I just put them just for fun. Any of them could be true or wrong. That Boba Fett thing was not even from a source just someone on the net speculating, that's why I said "wild".

From Cumbria Live
The Cumbrian lake is being used to create a new alien landscape for the franchise which has also incorporated planets covered in forest, swamps and lava.... The footage of the X Wing fighters uses a mixture of CGI and practical effects to create the effect of the ships flying over the water’s surface.

Lava? Mustafar?

Do you guys think there will be people causing a fuss this time around due to racial sterotypes and such like they did for episode one with Jar Jar and Watto, etc. ??

I'll wait to see and hear the character on screen before I speak but i hope they handle it carefully as it looks like it could very possibly be offensive to at least a few groups of people/nationalities

That's really down to them. If people want to see parallels and similarities when they look at alien characters in a fictional universe, then, that's up to them.

Really? This is getting so tiresome, and complaints like that do nothing more than detract from the real issues. Are these people ignoring the fact that John Boyega is front and center?

Yep. Agreed. They're also not noticing there's a female lead front in center in Daisy Ridley, but they're finding things to complain about. The movie isn't diverse enough, have enough females, etc...It's tiresome. There's real problems in the world, and the fact that Lupita is CGI frankly isn't one of them. It's time to take the soapbox up for real problems...Not things like this.
