I'm not a fan of any of the games disney has put out or the games associated with marvel movies... But if they allow other publishers to use the star wars name that could be awesome

Wow, what a great week its been since the announcment! The Disney acquisition has got me in a huge Star Wars mood. I've finished the Clone Wars Vol.4 blu-ray, watched Ep. III, re-read "The Truce at Barkura," and I'm currently re-mixing and sequencing my extended Ep.III soundtrack. Life is good! Carry on complaining and whining, I'm enjoying Star Wars!!!!!

Never called the American people "ignorant", never said Disney's ownership of ABC or ESPN was a "top secret". I think most Americans have much more important things to think about, such as their day to day lives, which is why so many entertainment shows love doing those "man on the street" interviews with people who don't know who the Vice-President is, or who the Speaker of the House is, or what's covered in the 1st Amendment, or who won the last Superbowl or who played Batman.

Also saying Disney was hands off with ABC is a JOKE, did nobody notice all the shameless Disney World plugs suddenly thrust upon the world in every single ABC show in the mid 90s?
That's hyperbole. Disney didn't buy ABC until 1996, and their management didn't really kick in until 1997. Regardless, I don't remember Disney World plugs on NYPD Blue, The Practice, Sports Night, etc. But Disney, under Eisner, did use ABC to push the Disney brand, there's no mistake, especially by bringing back The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights, starting in the Fall of 1997.

I didn't know Disney owned ABC until DIRECTV almost lost all Disney channel ... before that it just wasn't something important to me ... I think they own FX too but I may be wrong

Are you kidding me? Every single prime time sitcom that ABC made in the 90s had a stupid "lets go to Disney World" episode. So what if they didn't do that with every show, they did it plenty enough to notice.

Every single ABC sitcom made in the 90's? That would be some feat, since Disney didn't acquire ABC until 1996, and it wasn't until Fall 1997 that their influence was felt.

They even talk about it in the commentaries on the dvd's it's not like I am making this up, Disney made a BIG push in the 90's AFTER they bought ABC, no shit they didnt do that BEFORE they bought ABC, duh, I never claimed they did.

Whoa, relax. Ernest has said that they didn't acquire ABC until 1996, so there couldn't have possibly been a push on Disney's part before that because they didn't own the company. You seemed to ignore that. He just wanted to let you know so that, in the future, you could make claims and back them up with facts.

I don't know which direction this thead's heading in now, though

I believe calling people names is against forum rules.

I said in the 90's last time I checked 1996 was IN the 90's. Your the one who mistook what I said I never said it was EVERY show, nor was it the entire damn decade. It is a FACT that can not be disputed that IN the 90's AFTER the acquisition they DID too in fact push Disney World in MOST of their primetime sitcoms, I can amend that part fair enough but everything else I said was true they did to make a push, that is not a secret. They didn't do it the entire decade DUH I never said they did.

Alright, it was simply a case of misunderstanding your post then. I'm not arguing against what you're saying and can believe it whole-heartedly, because that's what Disney are like, but we just got confused on what constituted as most of the decade.

Anyway, why was this originally related to Star Wars? I've lost my way.

Sorry I got in a huff defending myself I forgot to explain why I brought it up. A few pages back someone claimed Disney would be totally hands off, I was saying that I doubt it, with comic books yes they are hands off mostly but their only precedent was that with the ABC take over they did make their presence known. They could do that here was what my original point was but I get carried away when talking Star Wars.

Ah right, now I understand. I'm in two minds about whether they will be hand-off: they should be, considering that is the approach they have taken with Marvel and it has proven very succesful. That said, Star Wars is a HUGE brand and Disney knows that - it definitely won't be allowing Lucasfilm complete reign because it knows that a situation may arise like with the prequels, and the fans might react angrily to it. Disney'll be there in the background, watching and not making its presence known until a slip-up occurs.

Well, then we agree, because like ABC, if things go south with LucasFilm, Disney will make their presence known. I don't know what you're arguing about, but not with me, because I don't believe for a second Disney will be "totally hands off". They know they have to get Episode VII right, the whole foundation of the film franchise rests on it.

I do apologize, you know how us Star Wars fans can get.

I think what prompted it was I made a comment about how the fans would react if they just hired Lucas to direct it. Personally I am still in shock my brain is catching up with my emotions. After all it is a new STAR WARS film, how can I NOT get excited.
