Yes and no.

Obviously this is going to be huge no matter what. But that December open is going to present obstacles that can't totally be ignored. Packing theaters around Christmas isn't as easy as packing them in the spring/summer no matter how big the movie is.

But yeah, basically 'who wants to watch a new Star Wars movie' would get them 90% of the way there.

Jason Ward from MakingStarWars.com has seen a concept art of Supreme Leader Snoke. This could be old concept, or could be rejected completely. One thing for sure, he's not human.

[Show spoiler]CONCEPT: STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS – SUPREME LEADER SNOKE!

I have seen a concept piece for “Uber” who is Supreme Leader Snoke in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I can’t say for certain this is what he will look like in the film but there’s a lot of commonalities with what we have been told he looks like (although some are unique as well). This may not be the final design of Snoke; I can’t say for certain when design work on Snoke stopped.

Snoke wears a black kimono with an outer robe and an off-white robe underneath it. The robe is very Japanese in style. You can see the white or light tan-colored under robe sticking out of the sleeves. His waist “dress” is made of wrappings like a mummy but they aren’t tight around legs but rather flow out like a skirt and reach completely to the floor. The collar or the garment is quite high and reaches from the collarbone all the way up to the chin area.

Snoke is not human. His head is shaped like a snake, a cobra but perhaps slightly flatter and wider. His eyes are pitch black and reptilian. His mouth is closed but sort of bulbous. You cannot see teeth. He has an angry sneer about him.

This design is against a light background, making it impossible to say if he’s five feet tall or eight feet tall, unfortunately.

As I said, I don’t know if this is what Supreme Leader Snoke will look like in The Force Awakens. I think the value in this piece is that he is reptilian, he has a “mystic’s” robes on and he looks very evil and pissed off. In my personal opinion, this concept is probably a little under-baked. I can see Snoke having been up-designed a lot. I think the value of this piece and this description might be in the basics such as he wears a robe and is reptilian. I find it hard to imagine the First Order being commanded by anyone but a human, but if he was a standard human, Andy Serkis wouldn’t have needed to do motion capture work on him. However, SWU (a very trusted site) once said described him as looking like an old man. I hope we get a good look at him at SDCC this weekend!

Not sure about the picture, but when asked about that before his answer was "I don't know and I don't care".

So this basically confirms both of them are in it.

I like the idea of Obi-Wan having had a family, during his exile on Tattooine. As for the possibility of Ewan reprising the role, I'd be open to a spinoff. No one could replace Alec as Kenobi's ghost, but I think it'd be cool if they aged Ewan with makeup, and deepened his voice in post for that.

I don't.

Call me a hardass 90s Star Wars fan, but Ben Kenobi doesn't need a romantic interest, he doesn't need a family, and he definitely doesn't need any damn kids! Settling down goes completely against the core concept of Ben and Yoda as Jedi in exile. Starting a family would easily attract too much attention compared to the simple life of a desert hermit: Ben would have to constantly maintain a false cover and live a double life which would be in danger of getting exposed.

And where would this hypothetical family be by the time Episode IV rolls around? They're not there: Ben lives alone in a hut. There are only two possible outcomes Ben's family in the PT/OT interim: 1, he raises a family for 10-15 years only for them to be murdered by Sandpeople, which is hackneyed and adds an unnecessary additional tragedy to Kenobi's story; or 2, he raises a family for 10-15 years then abandons them for the sake of his mission watching over Luke, which is just as hackneyed and unnecessarily paints Ben as a dick.

I would love a "Ben Kenobi in Exile" spinoff film--just make a small-scale sci-fi western like that John Jackson Miller novel--but for god's sake keep a family and children out of it.

If he does turn out to be
[Show spoiler]snake-like,
that's very interesting. If that's what they're going for, I wonder if it explains the name?
[Show spoiler]Snoke = Snake with the 'a' switched out for an 'o'. I also can't help but think of the European grass snake, which is called "snok" and "snog" in some countries.

I'd rather he stay alone. Sure, he had a love interest in the Clone Wars, but Obi Wan swore an allegiance to the Jedi ways.

To be honest, Ewan doesn't need a big makeover, if they set the movie to be 10 years after ROTS, then Ewan would look great for the part, because the 12 years have passed since they started filming ROTS. Dye part of his hair and we've got ourselves a film!

Just let Ewan do his thing. There's no need to emulate Alec Guinness. He did a great Obi-Wan in the prequels, he just needs to continue to do what he did.

I agree. It's a stupid idea and it would drastically change the character that we've known for decades.

The only offspring in the new trilogy should be from Luke and/or Leia since it fits with the rest of the saga. Any more than that is just overkill.
