I'm intrigued.

I'd probably agree with the sentiment that there should be no more Star Wars films, BUT then there were the prequels. Not that I hated them, I enjoyed them on some level but not in the same way as the OT. So now it's already been somewhat tarnished... why not see if they can replicate the magic of the first three?

I think it's way too early to dismiss them. With Lucas out of the picture, at least not in control, they stand a chance to land a big name director. Would Fincher or Nolan be interested? I'm sure there are plenty of directors who might be interested and could do a great job. It also depends on getting a good story, hopefully they will get the story right instead of just trying to get something out in the theaters ASAP.

I really think this may open the doors to releasing the OT unaltered on Blu-ray, why wouldn't they do it now? They know people want it and it'd sell. The only thing holding it back from before was Lucas arrogance about his refined vision.

What does this mean to the 3D conversions? I didn't see EP 1 and didn't have any desire to, wondering if they will continue to release them.

Oh God no. I didn't even think about remakes/reboots.

Okay, it's official. I'm freaking the **** out at that notion.

Good news if you ask me.

Disney has a keen eye for decent products. Even movies that seem to bomb, aren't all that bad.

Looking forward to episode 7!!!!

The threat in star wars was the rise of the Empire, not vilinising alien races.

A new STar Wars Trilogy? Never though I would see another Star Wars movie in my lifetime! And I'm 19!!
I remember watching Revenge of the Sith in 2005 and when I saw the words ' A long time ago in a galaxy far far away' followed by the title crawl 'Star Wars', I thought that was the last time I would ever see a new Star Wars movie! This is like a dream come true! WHy is everybody being so cynical?

I wouldn't worry too much about Remakes/Reboot. Since Lucasfilm is remaining an independent arm of Disney.

Much like how Marvel did. Marvel is still run like an independent company. And their output hasn't changed.

i know ill warm to this idea soon but right now i just cant understand it. i guess this is how people felt when they heard about the prequels. i was young enough at the time though to be excited by the announcement of more star wars. im just so used to their being 6 movies and I've been happy with the extra canon stuff. but another movie, without GL writing or directing (I'm quite aware of ESB and RotJ) its too hard to accept

It grossed $43m in 3D, and I'm certain it didn't cost that much to convert it. If that many idiots bought a ticket to see "Lil' Ani and Jar-Jar's Bombad Adventures in 3D" knowing full well how bad it was in advance, I'm sure the 3D re-releases will continue.

I don't think that Disney set out to acquire Sar Wars itself, but was more interested in ILM and Skywalker sound and what those companies could do for their films, which as of late have been very heavy on special effects (see: The Avengers/Iron Man 3). I am sure that in order to sweeten the pot, Disney just said they would buy everything for an upfront price.

What a great investment, think of how many non-Disney brands utilized ILM or SWS for their films special effects that would now have to give their money to Disney in order to retain usage? Disney doesn't even have to do ANYTHING with Star Wars in order to recoup the money they spent, but why not take advantage of a stalling franchise (though, Clone Wars is getting better and better) that is ripe for rejuvenation and do something with it?

I'm all for it. I don't understand the trepidation. It is not like Disney is going to be like "Ok, so Jar Jar Binks was super popular for kids so he is now the new main character in Episode 7, and he is going to visit a strange new world... Say, the Walt Disney World and have crazy adventures with a race of humanoid black mice."

I mean, they didn't ruin Marvel comics. Last I checked Peter Parker isn't currently working as a ride operator at the It's a Small World attraction in Orlando.

For me it's because I'm in the UK and Disney UK are complete ********s when it comes to home video releases (see Avengers UK release as a prime example of how piss poor they really are, and how they ruined a release that Paramount had gotten perfectly right before they were bought out).

Theatrially I'm not too concerned. As long as they don't **** up the script. I'm just not looking forward to any home video releases because they are always terrible in the UK.

I wonder if they are using the Yuuzhan Vong from the New Jedi Order Series as the alien race?

That's just it though. Would the value continue to increase if there were no new movies? At some point you can only make so much off of Clone Wars spinoffs, action figures, video games, and home video re-releases. Lucas probably figured that he could either make more movies himself, hire a writer and director to do them for him, or sell off the entire property to another studio and cash in while the value was still high.

I think it was the wisest move he could make from a business standpoint. Now creatively is another matter entirely. Disney is almost certainly going to milk Star Wars and possibly even Indiana Jones to death. I'm kinda surprised that Lucas being the control freak he is was willing to sign the rights to those franchises away, even for $4 billion.

If they bring back everyone for 7-9 (Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, etc ...) I am all for it. Otherwise, I think it will suck.

But can't believe that Star Wars is worth 4 Billion. That number is astronomical.
