Is that where we're setting the filmmaking bar now?

At whether or not I can do better?

Actually, that would explain a lot...

"The movies are what the movies are. ... The thing about science-fiction fans and “Star Wars” fans is they’re very independent-thinking people. They all think outside the box, but they all have very strong ideas about what should happen, and they think it should be their way. Which is fine, except I’m making the movies, so I should have it my way." - George

that's fine, but we can still think his 'way' sucks.

I don't have a way. I just critique a movie as I see fit. same as any other viewer does. they LIKE something, or they don't. they don't have to have a better way.

Well if I am the odd person out here then so be it but I like Star Wars Attack Of The Clones and Revenge Of The Sith and I think Christian Heydensen did a good job as Anakin Skywalker. The other faves of the series were The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi. So give me 2,3,5 and 6 and I am a happy camper and if Disney wants to make more then I am all for it if the storyline is good and the acting is good.

Thankfully, I wasn't born in time to develop nostalgia goggles for the OT. They're good, but just as flawed as the PT. I love all six movies. The vitriol that develops in these conversations absolutely escapes me. I can't imagine living with that much negativity inside me all the time.

Hmm, so your favorite films in the Star Wars franchise are the 2 most childish and watered down epitomized by Jar-Jar and the Ewoks.

His acting in ANH and ESB is fine, however his acting in ROTJ was flat and boring.

Yeah, the Nostalgia Goggles are one of the biggest problems if you pick a movie series up decades later.

My love of RotJ has nothing to do with the Ewoks. A lot of it has to do with the Father/Son dynamic and the emotional strength of the conflict.

Plus Palpatine was fantastic. Much like he we was in the Prequels. So glad we got how great he was at manipulating everyone.

I never was a huge fan of the Ewoks, but I don't hate them. And sure, I like Jar Jar. But he's not the only reason I like Episode I. I love finally getting to see all those aspects of the Star Wars universe we only heard about in the OT. The Senate, The Jedi Order, and so on. Maul was mediocre, but oh well.

And considering all of these movies are kids movies, I really don't think calling them "Childish" is a fair complaint about them.

A blind dog can do a better job on the prequels.

You know very well that I don't. My friends and I still crack up at Ford's delivery in ANH. Thankfully he improved.

Obviously you don't get it and stop taking petty swipes at people's personal tastes in movies. I don't know why fans don't seem to understand this ROTJ was not about Han Solo, it was about Luke, Vader and the Emperor, yes I know their were other stories unfolding, the battle of Endor, the attack on Death Star II, and everything that goes in Jabba's palace, but make no mistake the movie is about those 3 characters. Also I don't know why so many fans have such a issue with Han Solo's character maturing throughout the trilogy, his character arc was from a selfish mercenary to a thoughtful wise leader of the rebellion, alongside Leia. And don't get me wrong I love the selfish Han in A new hope and to some degree in ESB but I for one was glad that his character evolved.

Sure there is enough good stuff in ROTJ to still make it better then any of the prequels but its still obviously the weakest of the OT films by a mile.

The script is bad, Fisher and Ford were lackluster, there is too many childish corny moments and it was poorly directed with no coherent narrative in the structure of the story. I will say that the models, sets and puppets were outstanding though. The best SPX out of all the Star Wars films IMO. The space battle scenes were so well done that you'd think they could only pull something like that off with CGI in terms of its versatility (and I mean that in a good way.) The space battles in the prequels especially ROTS, are just way to busy with so much content crammed onto the screen.

Apart from Palpatine, Darth Maul was about the only good thing about TPM! He was terribly underused. My favorite orignal character out of the horrible prequels.

Kids movies? Well ROTJ and TPM certainly have that vibe. ANH, ESB and as much as I hate to it - even AOTC and ROTS don't feel "kiddish" or "immature".

No I don't have a problem with the evolution of his character arc, it makes sense in theory and the transition works from ANH to ESB because Ford was treating the role seriously in those conveying character development with good acting. Its just that the script and Ford's performance in ROTJ was so terrible that as a combination it hurts the film because he is given nothing to do with poor dialog in the process.
