Going out on a limb here but I think it's possible the writing and their acting will have more to do with how interesting they are than how they look. I probably wouldn't have been sold on Hamill and Fisher based on seeing them in pictures back in '76/early '77 either.

Nobody back then was sold on the three leads until the film finally came out. They were all unknowns. That was the point and what George wanted. J.J. took the same road and went for fresh faces. Boyega only has Attack the Block before this. They look fine to me. This whole appearance thing is just… beyond me maybe?

I'm not sold on Fisher being back either actually, Hamill looks cool and I'm confident with him. As for Ford, hmmm, I wish they'd given him a newish look at least, change his hair, maybe short back and sides. I get the impression they were too scared to alter his appearance too much hence his attire looks the same too.

I think he was saying that people weren't sold on them back then. They were all unknown quantities and really risky casting decisions back in the 70s when the first film came out. Nobody really knew what to expect of them until the movie came out. It's the same here. These are unknown actors that J.J. has chosen for the very specific reason that they are unknown and that given the proper guidance they can disappear into the roles without any excess baggage in the way.

Now that Spirit_Zero mention it, probably because of the jacket? Not that no one wears Earthly jacket in the Star Wars universe, but we've never seen a Jedi with a lightsaber with that kind of clothes before.

Yes, that's it for me too -- he's wearing a leather jacket and a black t-shirt, literally. Makes it look fan-made.

I'm less worried about John Boyega as I am Adam Driver. I'm just hoping he talks with a voice synthesizer and with the mask on the whole movie so he doesn't act and sound like the annoying hipster he always plays in every other movie

But doesn't everyone hate annoying hipsters? He'd be the perfect villain in that case.

I guess so, the most fearful thing they could do is keep telling everyone what product they use in their beards. That's probably the only reason for the crossguard on his 'saber, it's actually a beard trimming device.

I haven't seen Adam Driver in anything. Abrams and others keep hyping up his acting skills though so I'm curious to see if he really is that good.

The jacket could use a little more fringe as well.

Have you seen one of them when they don't get chocolate sprinkles on their lattes? That's Dark Side right there ...

I've always assumed the creatures living in their beards have a very high cocoa bean dependency and if they don't get it they make their host organism go home and smash all their vinyl.

I'm a bit surprised by that Star Wars news. I had thought it had already been announced that Interstellar was going to be the last film released in 70mm IMAX.

I wonder if any other of the announced upcoming IMAX films will be released in 70mm IMAX (there may be others than this list - this is from the last time I checked about a month ago):
The Transporter Refueled, Everest, The Walk, Crimson Peak, Spectre, Mockingjay Pt II, In The Heart of the Sea. 2016: The Finest Hours, Warcraft.

Although the studios have announced many times in the past that they would no longer make any 35mm prints and with the primary exception of Paramount, I believe they all still are, although in very small quantities (fewer than 50 prints per film).

Interstellar in 70mm IMAX was impressive although the shots presented in the full IMAX frame seemed incredibly arbitrary.

The Force Awakens is expected to make a haul of about $615 million worldwide opening.

It is expected to show on: Over 4,000 theaters, on at least 10,000 screens, and that's just the U.S alone. It also will show in every overseas territory .

I'd be extremely impressed if it does THAT well. Hell, we would all be around for bonafide cinema history if that happened.
