No way. You're looking at 9:30 or 10pm EST. That means 3 or 4am, your time, probably.

The Imperial Senate will no longer be of any concern to us. I've just received word that the Emperor has dissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the Old Republic have been swept away.

TAGGE
That's impossible! How will the Emperor maintain control without the bureaucracy?

TARKIN
The regional governors now have direct control over territories. Fear will keep the local systems in line. Fear of this battle station.

I figured the Regional Governors are still going strong in The Force Awakens.

This fits what I said. They may have killed the Emperor, but surely there were those who remained committed to the Empire's reign and would do anything to see it take power again. Just as in real life it is a never ending struggle.

The way the prequels set it up: since the empire was actually just the old Republic being controlled at the head by the Sith in theory when you destroy the Sith you can just reinstate the senate to restore democracy (they could also use this two fold to resolve the "bring balance to the force" thread with Leia forming the new senate and Luke a new Jedi order).

So the victory at the end of ROTJ makes sense.

Don't listen to them. 4 hours until the pre-game B.S. starts. Then the annoying wait begins.

I haven't been this excited to watch a football game since Madonna played halftime at the Superbowl.

Still plenty of governors/troops out there that weren't just going to put their arms up and surrender just because their leader was eliminated, they obviously banded together, went underground and are now looking to retake the Galaxy.

Can't wait

But it was also stated in A New Hope that the Emperor had, by that point, "dissolved the council permanently" and given the "regional governors" direct control. Were all of those governors killed at the end of ROTJ? I doubt it. News travels and I'm sure there were those governors who held on to the Empire's regime that fled underground and bided their time to build up a new force to take on the New Republic. Yes the Alliance had a victory and set out to establish a new Republic, but we see in our own world that peace never lasts and there are always those who will seek to undermine the established order. Why should the Star Wars Universe, fantasy though it is, be any different?

Just went by Lincoln Square on way to pick up groceries after work, and there was a line of at least a dozen people outside for Star Wars tickets. Now this several hours away, and on a chilly day, in the age when they can also order tickets online.

This is gonna be some kind of box office monster.

I loathe most sports, but I'll be keeping an eye on the game tonight. There's something about catching a trailer on TV that takes me back to my teenage years.

Downloading a trailer online lost its novelty once internet speeds got fast enought for instant playing. Give me 3 hour download times. More anticipation and excitement that way...

Was thinking the same thing, back in 1999 I could understand it but in this day and age all you need to do is type in a few numbers and bingo you have your tickets, booked mine via my phone before I even got out of bed this morning.

I will say this about the film; with the advancements in technology, this will clearly be the best looking STAR WARS film by far and that's saying alot considering the look of REVENGE OF THE SITH and THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. Those films are stunners.
I agree but as they say, looks aren't everything. I am sure the film will look nice and shiny and that will probably be the best thing we can say about it. Personally I find it rather funny how excited people are over seeing 10 seconds of the most boring footage you could release. Hollywood really knows how to work the audience today.

It's 6.40 AM here, 12 hours ahead. I'm so glad I don't have to stay up late in the night again. Will be right in front of my monitors in my office having my breakfast this time.

True. I mean, if people really wanna nitpick, the entire plot of Ep. IV doesn't hold up to current technology: Leia coulda just emailed those plans. "Thank you, R2. And... send. Well that's done. Now what?"

The Starkiller is really a giant version of the thermal detonator used by Leia/Boushh.

I've not read any of the previous pages but my chosen chain Odeon couldn't cope with the traffic of the pre orders and kept on crashing.
Got tickets for 0.01 on opening day at a Vue cinema, then at 10 am the same day at a 3D imax performance
Having read some of the posts elsewhere, certain cinemas are already sold out for the performances currently available to pre book,in this day and age with multiple screens and access to so many cinemas I think that this is going to be bigger than anyone expected
