As soon as I saw that, I thought it was Snoke. So, it could be. I mean, the Starkiller base looks like concept art for the Trade Federation ship a bit.
It's definitely possible considering how much they've been mining McQuarrie's concept art for this movie.

If not snake-like, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up some kind of ghost-like, spectral being. Partly because of that snoke = smoke thing you pointed out. May seem silly, but bad guys having these obvious, descriptive names is Star Wars tradition.

Very snake-like indeed. As they point out, the design they ended up settling for could be completely different so this isn't necessarily the Snoke we'll see in the movie. Still interesting to see though.
At what point in the movie will Han Solo say "Snakes?!? Why'd it have to be snakes?"

I haven't really seen much of the leaked stuff have McQuarrie's style. Unless I missed it? I've only seen concept for the Knights of Ren, possible art for Episode VIII. But the production design has certainly maintain exquisite continuity.

Only thing about that concept art, is that it sort of looks like Voldemort. Not sure if that's a coincidence? But he does have a snake nose for his own nose once he returns. i still think it's a cool enough design where they wouldn't look exactly alike.

That'd be pretty neat if he has powers like that. We haven't seen anything like that in Star Wars. I mean, I know Star Wars is fantasy dresses up as sci-fi, so I dunno if that would be stretching things. Although, the beings Yoda meets near the the end of the Clone Wars is something I'd love to see in live action. And, yes! They have been pretty descriptive of their main characteristic.

Darth Sidious = how Palpatine insidiously rose to power.
Darth Maul = he's fighting style will maul you to a pulp.
Darth Tyranus = his tyranny and being a you know what.
Darth Vader = " Vader" meaning "Father" in Dutch, with "Darth" being "Dark"; hence "Dark Father".

Sad part is, as they keep releasing more and more footage seemingly every day, it actually decreases the hype for me :\

Wasn't someone kvetching on this thread a few weeks ago about the lack of trailer footage? Now are on about too much footage?

I got my marathon tix. Yeah, I'm watching the freaking Prequels in a cinema.
I got my opening night tix for the family.
I got my IMAX 3D tix for Sunday morning...at 4:30 a.m.!
Movie might suck. I'm gonna have a ball....and have a great excuse not to be stuck with the in-laws that weekend.

Fascinating! I have long wondered what kind of character it will end up looking like. This is awesome. Andy Serkis for the win!

Makes it sound like they've got a history. Hey... I think I just realized what the Han Solo spin-off will be about.

[Show spoiler]Sad thing is some poor bastard out there would probably take this seriously and turn it into a "theory". "Kylo Ren = Luke" is a thing after all, and "Snoke = Jar Jar" has been gaining traction as well.

Oh, there's a lot of McQuarrie art that's found its way into The Force Awakens in one form or another. The X-Wing design is an obvious example, then we have some more obscure stuff like this:

[Show spoiler]

As for there being any kind of similarity between Voldemort and the Palpatine concept design and whether or not that is a coincidence, you'd have to ask the Harry Potter design team about that.

Again though, keep in mind this is just an early draft. Reportedly there's a ton of wildly different concepts for Snoke, so there's no guarantee this is anything close to the final design. He's a pretty important character so there's no doubt been a lot of brainstorming trying to come up with the perfect look for him. Whatever they went for in the end, I have faith they nailed it.

Could this be another, earlier Snoke image that escaped from Disney? :

That early sketch was dropped as sources close to J.J have revealed that this is the actual look of Snoke.

Doug Chiang's designs were pretty neat. I wonder if they'll be using any of his stuff as well.
