All these people complaining about CGI should go back and look at films that used matte paintings. Creating such mattes was certainly an art form, but they were almost always completely unrealistic.
An unrealistic matte painting can still be admired as a beautiful work of art.
Unrealistic CGI is just painful. Unrealistic painting is still a real object, CGI isn't and the brain objects to that unreality.

Jabba says, "Bantha pudu" (poo-do?) in ROTJ.

Yes, I realize the translation for "pudu" from the Huttese is "fodder" according to the sub-titles... but I seriously doubt Sebulba is exclaiming "FOOD!" after crashing his podracer in TPM.

What do you suggest guys. Ep VII is being shown in my country Dec 17. IMAX is usually $10. But they are having an advanced screening the day before - 5pm, for $25 with "free food" and Star Wars merchandise. Free food could be a small popcorn or something. Merchandise is rumored to be a Star Wars patch.

With $10, I can get better food. But yeah, the advanced screening is tempting.

Bought my first (probably not last) bit of TFA swag - Captain Phasma Black Series figurine. Was looking for Kylo Ren, hopefully I'll stumble across that somewhere. Scalper prices on Phasma are ridiculous but for some reason not so on Kylo, so worst case I may just resort to that.

EDIT: Got Kylo Ren at B&N of all places, I think I'm happy... for now (wish BB-8 came on its own and not packaged with Rey)

That was hand-drawn cell-animation? I thought it was all done in a computer, which would make it CGI.

Almost every film today has CGI in it - even romantic comedies and the like. But they never complain about those because they don't expect CGI in those films, so they don't "see it". They expect CGI in comic book and fantasy films, so they "see" it and then claim it's terrible because that's the current meme.

All these people complaining about CGI should go back and look at films that used matte paintings. Creating such mattes was certainly an art form, but they were almost always completely unrealistic.

Most CGI today is actually quite spectacular. Nothing wrong with building practical effects as well, but this negative obsession with CGI is quite ridiculous.
This scene still looks realistic and better than any scene from the prequels.

A straight remake of X-wing vs Tie Fighter would be more realistic as EA would demand multiplayer for sure and the effort could be easily middle-to-low budget instead of high budget, then they could remake the campaigns of the first two games as DLCs or standalone expansions, though the X-wing campaign needs a serious redesign of the missions and also add mouse support for those who don't have gamepads or joysticks.

I loved his remark about being the same age as Alec Guinness.

George Lucas: "I'm Done With Star Wars"

http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/20/entert...eat/index.html

Nothing necessarily news-worthy here, but some interesting comments non-the-less. I know there has been some banter back and forth as to whether Disney was using George's story treatments or not. This seems to pretty definitively say they are NOT. Which, I think is a bit unfortunate. He created the world, wrote the stories. I want to know how they REALLY end. Anything else is just fan-fiction.

Now, if TFA is awesome, then I may not really care.

Lucas did finish the story ... the story was about Anakin/Vader. The continuing stories may in fact be better and more entertaining. But the story of Anakin/Vader is over and Lucas got to tell it. I can understand why he feels he is done. He has told his story. Now is the time for others to tell theirs.

I think it's a great thing they didn't use his script. He's a good/great idea man but that's it.

Also, have fun with "fan-fiction" because that's all we're getting from here on out. Considering these films take place after and are in continuity with the previous 6 films, that makes them canon as far as I'm concerned.
