I know COVID-19 has taken most of the air from many topics (and that thing we had Nov 3), but HDR interest still is moving along. And I continue to see new converts to 4K in various threads, so upgrades continue to happen. Always happy to see more folks join the party.
The higher the acquisition resolution, the better the 4K deliverable, ergo -

Where the 12K Rubber Hits the Road – James Mathers Tests the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12 K, excerpted from DCS (http://www.digitalcinemasociety.org/...a-mini-pro-12k)

“I don’t expect to shoot much 12K, but I think having this ability is still important. Not just as a hedge against obsolescence, but for VFX and Virtual Production plates, reframes, and stabilization, to name a few. I tried to look at the challenges and potential benefits of shooting 12K in this evaluation, but the most important factor is really how it looks. As my grandmother used to say, “The proof is in the pudding.”

not mentioned at Comic-Con and such but I’ll have you know that to be in frame, Tom clocked a speed of 80+ mph and the F/A-18 ~ 140 mph for that ^ side by side shot.

When is Samsung going to come out with HLG+ with DV?

My Sony X950H triggers DV >PQ< mode when trying to play back DV8.4 files...ugh.

Samsung does not support Dolby Vision on any of it's TVs. They support HDR10+ instead: HDR, HDR10+ and HLG

“The announcement by Warner Bros. Pictures Group that it will make its major titles for 2021 available simultaneously for a month in both cinemas and on its HBO Max streaming platform is rightly seen as a watershed moment for theatrical exhibition. In the next few days we will see many obituaries written about the ‘death of cinema’. Don’t believe a word of it.”

I would be surprised if any balanced, experienced analyst predicts this move will outright kill off Cinema (the theatrical going experience). The question is to what degree this, so far, one-year experiment will irrevocably displace movie theater-going to a secondary or tertiary minor pastime as compared to the evolution of watching dem movies in the comfort of one’s home, especially if one has a fairly large flat panel at home.

I'm not sure it even has to be a "large flat panel" to displace the cinema experience, as the vast majority of people do not give a shit about quality. As long as they can watch WW84 on their phone on the commute to work then they're good, IMO people have historically gone to the cinema for the social aspect more than the quality of it as such. The rise of the PLF aspect of cinema-going would perhaps contradict that argument, but IMAX, Dobly Cinema et al still only make up a small portion of western cinema revenues.

So yeah, I don't think this specific move will kill cinema in itself, but the longer this situation goes on the more that people will just get out of the habit of visiting das kino, as well as paying for it. So when/if it does open up on the scale we had previously it'll be verr interesting to see what the public's reaction will be when they're used to having new releases pumped straight thru to their phones, and at no extra cost on top of their existing subscriptions to whatever studio's streaming service. It's remarkable how quickly humans adapt to new situations, it's one of our great traits as a species, but it means that cinema-going might be left behind.

People might say "well, I think live music and theatre will make a comeback" and I don't disagree, there's that intangible thing about seeing a live show which will always draw people back in, but a movie is a movie is a movie, to the average person its fundamentals won't change whether they're seeing it on an 80-foot screen in a cathedral-like picture house or on an 8-inch screen whilst visiting the porcelain palace.
