Whilst I’m certain most common people have no interest in JK Rowling’s personal life, it’s the majority of her fans that have access to Twitter or are at least tech savvy enough to be able to access what’s going on. And I do think that’s a particularly substantial difference, considering Crimes of Grindelwald significantly underperformed for a Harry Potter joint, and that was supported predominantly by fans who are likely Twitter users. Considering the prequel series hasn’t been that particularly well received and the potential actors who might find it to be bad PR to remain involved (obviously baring in mind they’re likely contract bound), it might just wind up not being worth the effort for Warner to will it back to life.

Again, I hope a third film is made because I think people are owed a conclusion, but I just think this is just a bit different than the standard ‘cancel culture/Twitter mob’ drama that people are dismissing it as.

I think CoG is unmitigated shite, and it's got nada to do with anything except the film itself.

The Crimes Of Grindelwald is nothing but a long line of nonsensical plot set-ups, exposition dumps and rudderless character interactions... perhaps thought to be building to something meaningful in a later sequel?

It doesn't help one bit, that Newt Scamanger is one of the worst written and most passive protagonists of recent years. Jakob is the only likable character in the FB films; too bad his girlfriend turned from being intelligent and savvy in FB1 into an idiot in FB2, for reasons I'm not capable of explaining.

Anyway, I'd rather watch the Star Wars prequels than CoG. That's how bad it was.

A bit yes. First reports were of him being an abuser, since then reports and recordings have turned the tide to show that it may have actually been Heard and public opinion has shifted from what I have seen across social media.
Not absolving or excusing either of them because it sounds like it was just a generally toxic relationship but again, it seems opinion on Depp has shifted vs. where it was when this mess all started unfolding.

Sometimes when you are watching a franchise unfold it feels like the filmmakers are winging it movie to movie. No real plan from the get-go, just course correct with every new installment. The Star Wars sequels felt like that and the Fantastic Beasts franchise feels like that.

Wasn't the Fantastic Beasts supposed to originally be only 3 movies and then it got stretched to 5?

That could be why it fills that way, they need to add filler.

I always find stretching a franchise out weird. Complete the franchise and then make something new. Stretching out Harry Potter made sense but stretching Fantastic Beast seems weird. It is a brand new franchise without a massive following beyond the tenuous link to Harry Potter. Complete 'that' story and then move on to another story in the HPl Universe.
