This upsets my quite a bit. I guess I should have waited awhile longer for my set. I do feel this is mis-leading a 120hz should be 120hz not some facsimile of it.

Panasonic put out a press release a couple of days ago, confirming that most of their new displays will support 1080p/24hz playback.

Thought I'd post it here, as I've been visiting this page a bit over the last few weeks, looking for a Plasma/Panasonic model that can do this... am guessing there might be others in my position!

Default LG 60PY3D (60" Plasma) Has 24Hz Refresh!

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on an LG 60PY3D 60" 1080P/24 plasma TV. But I can't find any reference to it on this listing. The manual says that its supported 1080P display specifications include 24, 30 and 60 Hz (and lists all of those as supported inputs as well). It appears to not multiply the 24 Hz refresh rate though. Won't that make the picture horribly painful to watch? I know I always set my analog monitors to over 60 Hz refresh rate as I can see it blinking even at 6o Hz. Do you think they multiply it even though they don't specifically call it out? I'd REALLY hate to buy it and not be able to watch the 1080P/24 that my PS3 outputs. Any comments or suggestions?

Here is the LG site (click on Manual under Product Info):
http://us.lge.com/products/model/det...__60PY3D.jhtml

The display specs are on page 31.

Thanks for any insight anyone can provide!

Nathan

Fantastic information.....where might I find the dimensions for these sets that Sony announced. Specifically the 40" with the super narrow bezel. Have been waiting for a 40" tv to fit in a specific cabinet. Right now there is a Toshiba 40" with a narrow bezel that will work.....but would much rather wait a few months for one with 120/24 compatablility.

In a few months before the products are released they should have the dimensions posted on the Sony website.

Default New Epson projector?

How about Epson's new 1080p projector (with a supposed 50,000:1 Dynamic Contrast)....
Looks like true 24p support to me...

Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 1080 UB ...
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/c...s&oid=63073679
http://www.projectorcentral.com/Epso...a_1080_UB_.htm

In some countries, it's released as the EMP-TW2000 ...
http://www.epson.com.au/products/pro.../emptw2000.asp

There's also an older, non-UB model...
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/c...s&oid=63068239

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks in advance.

According to the list by the OP, the only LCDs that do true 1080/24p are Sony 120HZ LCDs...

Is this accurate? I've heard people say their Samsungs can do 24p, I've also heard that the Sony KDL-w3000 series can also do 24p and they are not 120Hz, to my knowledge.

Can someone help? I am confused.

The EPSON Powerlite Pro Cinema 1080P does not appear on the list since it does not refresh 1080P/24 material at multiplies of the original frame. Instead it uses a 3:2 pulldown process for 1080P/24 material and refreshes at 60HZ. Hopefully in the future new models of Epson front projectors will correct this issue.

Quote
The Epson will accept 1080p/24 sources, but according to Epson only displays at 1080p/60. Displays that can output 1080p/24 signals at 48Hz, 72Hz or 96Hz can provide a subtly smoother image by eliminating the "judder" associated with the 3/2 pulldown required to output film's 24p native images at 60Hz.”

The new Panasonic plasma's will have 24p support natively.
No mention of refresh rate yet, but should find out within a few weeks.
It says "24p Native reproduction" so hopefully that means 72Hz or 96Hz.

When this list first began all displays that had a 1080P/24 input were included on the list since they all processed 1080P/24 correctly. Pioneer was the first flat panel company that offered this feature and a hand full of front projectors by Sony and various other companies. Then one day some companies in order to keep costs down decided to make cheaper 1080P/24 displays that use a 3/2 pulldown process and incorrectly refresh images at 60HZ and 120HZ (120HZ with 3:2 pulldown). There is no benefit at all to 1080P/24 if the display does not bypass the 3:2 pulldown process and refresh the image at multiplies of the original frame. On some brands and models of displays 1080P/24 input is nothing more then a good marketing buzz word to attract customers into buying the display. When a display does not process 1080P/24 correctly in most cases there is no difference in picture quality between 1080P/24 and 1080P/60.
To my knowledge all of the other Sony’s with a 1080P/24 input that are not on the list refresh 1080P/24 at 60HZ. At this time only Pioneer and Sony offer flat panel models that correctly refresh 1080P/24 at multiplies of the original frame. Also I am waiting for a professional review before I add any flat panel Samsungs to the list. It took a few months before the Sony’s were added to the list after they were released since I wanted to verify they bypassed the 3:2 pulldown process. I try and keep the list as accurate as possible. Once and a while as more information is learned about a display it can end up being added or removed from the list.

Thank You for your reply! I am just going to stick with the XBR4 then, i want to make sure I have true 24p that bypasses 3:2 pulldown, from what I saw on the 40" xbr4, it looks amazing!

Thanks dobyblue for the information. Last year I read that Panasonic was going to introduce Plasma screens with a 1080P/24 input for 2008. Most likely (hopefully) the Panasonics will refresh the image at multiplies of the original frame. Maybe 72HZ or 120HZ. Unless the specs change some of these Panasonic displays will be THX certified. I would be in shock if the THX certified dispalys did not bypass the 3:2 pulldown process. Pioneer for 2 years has been the only company making true 1080P/24 Plasma’s. It would be nice to see some competition.
If Panasonic would list buzz words like 5:5 pulldown or 3:3 pulldown on their website for these new models then I will instantly add these models to the list. Otherwise I am going to wait for a professional review which will take a few months after the product is released.

Info news link regarding the new Panasonic displays that might be added to the list in the future.

The following NuVision 1080P LCD displays might be added to the list after further verification

NuVision NVU65HDN 1080P 65"

NuVision NVU52DCM 1080P 52"
NuVision NVU47DCM 1080P 47"
NuVision NVU42DCM 1080P 42"
NuVision NVU37L 1080P 37"
NuVision 47LCM3 1080P 47"
NuVision 42LCM3 1080P 42"
NuVision NVX37HDU2 1080P 37"

The above displays need further verification before being added to the list. Sent an email to NuVision and waiting for a reply.

http://nuvision.com/tv/

The Nuvision 52LEDLP rear projector has been verified by Perfect Vision magazine to refresh at 72HZ for 1080P/24 material

Quote

I was thrilled to learn that the 52LEDLP can accept 1080p/24 from Blu-ray and HD DVD players and display the signal at 72Hz, repeating each frame three times. This completely eliminates any jerkiness in movie playback that arises from converting 1080p/24 on the disc to 1080p/60 for most video displays.”

Just had an e-mail back from Panasonic.

No street date or price yet for the DMP-BD50.

The 24p native does negate 3:2 pulldown, but I would agree that waiting for Gary Merson to get his hands on one is probably the smarter route.

I am definitely looking forward to the TH-50PZ800 with the THX and 24p native. I hope it is 72Hz!

Default Olevia 247TFHD 47" Showing 24hz

Hi I found out after looking at the poll about 24hz, My Olevia 247TFHD. 47" 1080p shows display on Blu-Ray at 1920 x 1080 at 24hz.

Would that qualify this, I paid $1099 at Circuit City, and is a new model. Great set by the way.

I am just learning about all this 24 stuff. I also have the canon HV20 Camcorder so, all those m2ts streams look very nice on my display when burned native to a dvd.

I should mention the manual shows 1920 x 1080 at 60, but Olevia manuals are NOT exactly known for being 100% accurate at all times. mainly due to rs232 commands that can be sent and are not listed.

Thanks,
Joe

I was doing some reaserch and googled this TV:

It says 100Hz, 24 FPS 5:5 Pull Down.

Is it just me or wouldn't that be 20 FPS?

Many displays have an info button on the remote that shows the type of signal it receives. To my knowledge Your display is either converting 24HZ to 60HZ or 48HZ. Most likely 60HZ. The manual is not clear on the refresh rate when 1080P/24 signal is applied. This brand will remain off the list for now.
