To reduce the judder a display needs to be able to refresh 1080P/24 material at multiplies of the original frame which would be one of the following rates 48HZ, 72HZ, 96HZ, and 120HZ or higher multiplies.
If one owns only a 60HZ refresh rate display then sometimes one will get a better picture if they set the BLU-RAY player to 1080P/60 output instead of 1080P/24. It all depends on if the BLU-RAY player or the display has better 3:2 pulldown circuitry to convert 1080P/24 material to 60HZ.
I am hoping that in the future manufactories will start advertising their displays as “true 1080P/24 refresh rates”. This would make it easier for consumers. Since many companies are going to jump on the 1080P/24 input marketing but only refresh at 60HZ.
Well, thanks, but that sucks for me, seeing as I bought the set back in February specifically because of the 24p mentioned in the owner's manual. No wonder I wasn't noticing anything special about 1080p/24.

Default The list is shrinking

The following Sony displays have been removed from the list until an official professional review or further technical data describes how the Sony LCD's handles 1080P/24 material.

1. Sony 70” LCD 1080P KDL-70XBR3 (scheduled release summer 2007) (120Hz) (xvYCC)
2. Sony 46” LCD BRAVIA XBR KDL-46XBR4 (scheduled release August 2007)
3. Sony 46” LCD BRAVIA KDL-46V3000 (scheduled release July 2007)
4. Sony 40” LCD BRAVIA KDL-40XBR4 (scheduled release August 2007)
5. Sony 40” LCD BRAVIA KDL-40W3000 (scheduled release July 2007)

Also the following Pioneer Plasma displays are being removed from the list.
Pioneer PDP-5010FD 1080P 50 " Plasma (scheduled release September 2007)
Pioneer PDP-6010FD 1080P 60" Plasma (scheduled release September 2007)

According to page 25 of the July/August 2007 Widescreen Review issue only the Pioneer Elite models will use true Pure Cinema 72 fps 3-3 cadence of 24 fps material which is the same technology that was placed in the first generation PRO-FHD1. The two Pioneer’s being removed from the list are reported to use a 60HZ and 60fps 3-2 pulldown method to try and eliminate the judder with smooth motion technology. This 60HZ at 60fps smooth motion technology has not had a official professional review to see how will it works to eliminate judder. If you want a true judder free Plasma at 72HZ then the Pioneer Elite line is the only option.

Correction

The Pioneer PDP-5010FD and Pioneer PDP-6010FD were once on the list and should have never been removed from the list. Widescreen review never mentioned in detail that these displays also had 72HZ refresh for 1080P/24. Reading the news clip it appeared to me that only the ELITE models had 72HZ refresh. Sorry, it’s hard to get accurate information.
Here is official documentation that proves that the Pioneer PDP-5010FD and Pioneer PDP-6010FD both refresh 1080P/24 material at 72HZ.

According to one of my sources the Samsung BD-P1400 BLU-RAY player and the BD-UP5000 combo player will both have a 1080P/24 output. Also 1080P/24 most likely is going to be a standard feature on any new BLU-RAY or HD-DVD player released in the future. The two Samsungs have been added to the list. Both the Samsung BD-P1400 and BD-UP5000 are fully compatible with PIP and BD-live since they well have at least 1GB of memory storage for BD-live. Also this new Samsung in theory will be the first true fully functional combo player which should arrive in October or November.

UPDATE, Samsung BD-P1400 does not have the min hardware requirements for PIP and BD-live

Excuse my ignorance, but if you have a front projector and blu-ray player that supports 1080p/24, must the AV receiver also support 1080p/24? i.e. all three components must support 1080p/24, else the whole thing is lost. I have the top-of-the-line JVC-DLA-RS1 projector and Yamaha HTR-6090 receiver, but the receiver does not support 1080p/24.

24 is pretty damn noticable. But it does vary a lot from one display to another, and one section of material to another. Scrolling credits, camera pans, etc will show it up more.

The larger problem is with the 60XBR2. To understand my disapointment with the SXRD rear-pros... if you can ever run a front projector like, say, my Mitsubishi HC3000 720p DLP at around 60 inches or even a fair bit larger up against a rear-pro (or indeed any LCD or plasma) - you will not believe how much better the front projector looks!

The new Toshiba panels in their upcoming Cinema series will do 1080p @ 120 mHz. And only $2200 for 42".

I know...I know... it's buying from the other side. But I can vouch for it. I own one. Even though I'm a stauch BD supporter. I cannot tell you how many people have come into my living room and fell over at the quality of my HD presentation.

But the fact is, the Toshiba panels have taken the #3 spot in sales and are expected to jump to #2. Like it or not, there will be a lot BD disks shown on Toshiba panels.

Thanks, I will be looking for a review of these products with the several magazines I subscribe too. Currently all brands and models of 120HZ displays currently on the market only convert 60HZ material to 120HZ and not 1080P/24 material to 120HZ.

True if you plan on using your receiver as a HDMI switcher then also your receiver needs to support 1080P/24 along with everything else like display and BLU-RAY player.

The Sharp BD-HP205 has been added to the list of 1080P/24 output capable players. This player is also suppose to load BLU-RAY discs in seconds comparable to the speed of the average DVD player. If this quick start feature really loads BLU-RAY discs within a few seconds then this will be a very popular player.

Update

The Sharp BD-HP20U has been added to the list. The BD-HP205 has been removed from the list since it is not a US product and was made for Japan market only.

That depends on your budget. Personally I am looking at maybe getting the Pioneer Elite 60 inch Plasma. I would love to have a Front Projector but then I would need to move and build a dedicated home theater room one day.

The Samsung HL-T8xS series support 24p. An engineer on AVS confirmed it (120Hz refresh)

Two questions, Banjo...
1. I'm wondering if the Epson PowerLite actually refreshes at a multiple of 24. Are you seeing much of a difference when you switch between 60p (or 60i) and 24p?
2. If you set your Blu-ray player to 720p output vs 1080, how much extra detail are you generally seeing? I'm wondering if it isn't diminishing returns once you get past 720p with most material...

The Samsung BD-P2400 has been added to the list since it has 1080P/24 support and should arrive in October. According to one of my sources the BD-P2400 is replacing the BD-P1200 which is soon going out of production. The BD-P2400 is PIP and BD-live fully compatible.
The old model BD-P1200 that is going out of production will remain on the list until it is no longer available for sale.
UPDATE, Samsung BD-P2400 might not have the min hardware requirements for PIP and BD-live and has been moved from the list since the Oct 31st mandate has a loophole

The list has been updated with accurate information regarding which BLU-RAY players meet the minimum hardware requirements for PIP and BD-LIVE.

Due to my recent understanding of the loophole in the October 31st mandate I have updated the BLU-RAY list with accurate information on which players have the minimum hardware requirements for PIP and BD-LIVE. Only companies that have announced their model supports PIP and BD-LIVE capability are now on the list.
For more information about this loophole visit the following link

The following two Sony rear projectors have been removed from the list since it appears from Sony’s website that these displays will not have the 1080P/24 input with refresh rates of multiply of the original frame. Earlier reports mentioned they would but products and features can change before a product is released.
Also the Sony BDP-S300 does have 1080P/24 but before the product was released Sony shipped it with HDMI 1.2 and at a $100 lower price. This was suppose to have HDMI 1.3 but the product specs changed before it was released

Removed from list since specs appear to have changed before the product is released
  • Sony KDF-50E3000 LCD Rear Projector (scheduled release summer 2007)
  • Sony KDF-46E3000 LCD Rear Projector (scheduled release summer 2007)
