Arrow 'Friday the 13th’ TV Series Announced

http://bloody-disgusting.com/news/32...ies-announced/

Crystal Lake is finally reopening on the small-screen.

While Platinum Dunes works out their remake for 2015, Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment have set a deal to produce a new hourlong dramatic series based upon the characters and settings of Friday The 13th, Deadline reports.

Sean S. Cunningham, who helmed the 1980 original, will be executive producer along with EFO Films principals Randall Emmett & George Furla, Mark Canton of Atmosphere Entertainment MM, Steve B. Harris of Diversion3 Entertainment, and Ted Fox of Fox Entertainment. Also producing is Horror Inc. president Robert Barsamian, who produced the features.

Bill Basso (Terminator) and Jordu Schell (Avatar) have been set to script “a storyline that re-imagines Jason in multiple time periods.”

The original was set at a summer camp, closed because of the drowning of an unattended child. Promiscuous counselors tried to re-open the place, but they began dying. Jason actually took root as the indestructible villain in the second film, with his signature hockey goalie mask. “The series is contemporary, focusing on the eclectic characters of Crystal Lake who are forced to confront the return of the killer, as new secrets about his wacky family are revealed.”

Roy Knyrim (Gods and Monsters) of SOTA FX will coordinate the special make-up effects for the series.

“Jason Voorhees is synonymous with the genre and we plan to build on this legacy with a provocative and compelling take that expands upon the storylines that have already thrilled millions worldwide,” explained Cunningham. Said Barsamian: “Expect the show to take viewers in some exciting new directions that we’re confident will not only excite existing fans of Friday The 13th but also attract new audiences to the situations and characters that inhabit the small town of Crystal Lake.”

I'll watch depending on who airs it. Hopefully a network that can get away with some gore (and nudity of course ).

Will watch for sure. I know they've been trying to get something like this on air for a few years now. Personally Friday the 13th is an easy franchise to bring to the small screen.

Each season can be Jason killing off camp workers while others try to survive and escape. Assuming they keep it at 13 episodes per season.

I'm open to this provided it doesn't carbon copy Bates Motel. Similar but different is fine....

Speaking of the Voorhees family, after the story broke, producer Daniel Farrands, who helped conceive the series with Geoff Garrett, responded to fan criticism over the alleged “storyline that re-imagines Jason in multiple time periods.”

“We will be exploring the origins of the Voorhees family,” Farrands told F13Franchise, “namely Pamela and Jason Voorhees, but doing so in flashbacks to past events that will be running concurrently with present day storylines.

“There is absolutely no time traveling of any kind,” he clarifies. Not that he should have to, because the press release in no way implies there would be time travel (come on, guys).

According to the announcement, the series is mostly contemporary, focusing on the eclectic characters of Crystal Lake who are forced to confront the return of the killer, as new secrets about his wacky family are revealed.

I am one of the few people who actually like Rob Zombie's Halloween movies so the news that the new F13 will explore the characters past has me excited. As long as there are still lots of brutal killings of annoying teenagers of course.

There should be people, like the ambulance driver who went crazy in that one movie, who have been around since killer mom and early Jason... like people who work with the local police, rescue, and cemetery services who could be characters in a show like this.

Jason and his mom didn't kill everybody in the vicinity... so they could have characters with some perspective in a show like this.

Can't wait for it, but, it has to be good, just like the films.
Also, it has to be 13 episodes per season.

Few sites are just reporting it as a remake while others say new entry. Personally I shouldn't have said it's not a remake as we don't know that 100% yet, I jumped the gun.

Unless it's a direct remake of the 2009 movie or part 1, I'll consider it a new entry like parts 2-11 have been.

Wrong. How many times does this have to be corrected?

1. Mrs. Voorhees was the killer in the 1st film.
2. Jason wore a burlap sack over his head in 2nd film.
3. Jason finds and starts wearing the hockey mask in the 3rd film.

I want to see Jason as a child with his Mother and where was his Dad? Who was he? Freddie Krueger? Did Jason have any siblings? Were they 'normal'? If the show contains flashback material focusing on this type of stuff then it could work.
