Oh well, I guess I have a few weeks to decide.
You can always sell your first, which would easily pay for the 2nd and then some.

I dunno about "always," he might want to do it now before everyone catches on that it's about to be re-released in a superior version.

I think I want to hold onto my current copy even though I plan on buying the new edition. I just can't bring myself to part with that copy.

5 years ago those extras would've made me jump in a second. Now, I could care less. No double dip here, I'll just keep my old one. Even if it isn't special anymore, I still love the thing.

Anyone planning on selling the old one better get on it. It will steadily drop in value as word of the 30th gets out, and by release day they'll probably be hard to give away. Bad collectors in this market, no care of history or first releases, just what has more features or a higher bitrate.

It's not like a book 1st edition or some rare original art, this is a mass produced plastic we are talking about. All that really should matter is the content and bitrate. The fact it's "limited" is purely artificial in nature, and as you pointed out as soon as that content becomes obsolete it's value becomes severely limited.

If Shout Factory had done the new release, the original Twilight Time shouldn't be worth $20. If Fright Night ever makes it to 4K (i.e. yet another upgrade), that original release shouldn't be worth the plastic it's printed on. Obviously if the new version sells out quickly, then the old one will probably retain a markup. But IMO it's silly to hold onto it. I dumped all of the titles rumored to have re-releases just knowing that I could pay for the new version AND pay for at least an extra film with each one i sold. Effectively doing a 2:1 or 3:1 swap for each one.

I missed it because I hadn't seen the film and didn't know it would be THAT good! (by the way, I LOVE the 80s).
Although, the poster is one of 3 that had been stuck on my mind since childhood, from the days I was seeing it at my local videostore, and thought it was a film that had to do with ghosts.

Will there be any kind of group buy for this title?
If not I will create an account with them now in anticipation

I doubt it since they've been implementing very small limits of how many can be ordered per customer.

It's a copy of a film. Quality trumps everything. Collecting these things and hoarding them is stupid. They are films, not antiques.

I'm guessing this is in keeping with Sony's policy not to allow new extras to be created for their licensed titles?

I already have the first release, I can do without the special features, and most likely the A/V quality will be the same. So there is need for me to purchase the 30 Anniversary Edition.

I'm happy they bumped it to 5000, if they follow the same limits as the blob maybe it will last a few days or a weeks before selling out.
