Anybody got a spare $500 lying around for that single Amazon copy? I have the bootleg DVD that fleshwoundvideo.com was peddling (remember them?) - it's in widescreen and looks great. I don't have high hopes for a legitimate release tbh. I still don't get how nobody knows who has the rights, though.

Both copies delivered, with 1 copy heading right out the door! Won't lie, I bought 2 with the intention of selling the second to recoup my costs, and wound up getting extra thanks to zealous bidders.

Er, even bad studios don't use an 11Mbps mpeg2 file to master their discs. Do they?!

If anyone is still waiting, I queried it and the reply put my mind at rest. They do have 5000 to post after all, though given it's sold out is it any wonder some of us were and are getting a little twitchy twiddling our thumbs?

I got the 30th Anniversary in hopes it was corrected.
Yeah the new 30th Anniversary Edition does have the 2.0 mix in lossless so you should be covered.

I disagree that we should have to fight scalpers for the horror titles we love, but at the same time I can't fault studios like Sony for participating in the Twilight Time limited edition approach, because it has obviously (especially with the sold out titles) worked in their favor. Sony released Night of the Creeps, which was a title that hadn't even had a blu-ray release, and it didn't sell as well as they had anticipated. Had they decided to release Fright Night as a regular release, it would have probably retailed for 14.99 - 19.99, and while some fans would have grabbed it immediately, others would have said, "This is one of my favorite films, but I'll get it when it drops to $5.00" and end up waiting forever to pick it up, and may not. By the time the price would have dropped, there would have been other titles that took priority. How has The People Under the Stairs sold? Even though that was released at a low price, there are numerous people who just don't want to pay $15+ for a catalogue title. Just look in the Halloween and Friday the 13th threads and you will see true fans that keep waiting on the prices to drop below $50, even though the Halloween set is supposed to be limited, and Scream Factory has said not to wait on it.

While I do agree that this limited edition model does attract scalpers, at the end of the day Sony and Twilight Time look at the fact that they've sold 8,000 copies of a title at 29.99, which may have taken Sony by itself much longer to do at a much lower price. Honestly, I think that if Night of the Creeps was part of this Twilight Time model today, it would be a quick sellout -- even at 29.99 a copy -- but instead it's currently sitting at Amazon for $10.99, and there's no telling if it has sold 8,000 copies or not in the five years it's been available.

I think that the Limited Edition approach is helping these titles sell out faster, but I am glad that Twilight Time is at least now putting purchasing limits early on, because with the pre-order going live during the holidays, I had completely forgot about it. Had this been like Christine, it would have sold out before I remembered that the pre-order was live. As a fan, I do wish these were readily available for everyone, much like Night of the Creeps is now, but from a business perspective, I can't argue with how Sony and Twilight Time has managed to make these titles profitable. I have all but given up on trying to get retailer exclusives (steelbooks and digibooks) from stores since they tend to sell out as soon as the store opens. But at least those tend to have other options available.

Mine shipped and my card actually got charged before I got my disc! It's a miracle.

I don't mind scalpers at all. It isn't even remotely difficult to just stay on top of ordering one so I don't miss out. I've never once had a problem ordering something from TT or places like Mondo. Just be prepared and you're good to go. At least it's not the 80s where you had to physically fight people to get a Canbage Patch Doll (or so I hear. I was born in '85)

This thread is a hoot to read through

Got mine this morning, goes well right next to my first TT version

By the way, guys, this isn't the best movie ever made LOL. There are plenty of VHS, DVD, and Laserdisk versions available if you just REALLY have to watch it.

For $35, it's not exactly a work of art, as far as blu-rays go. It's the most I've ever paid for a single disc, though. I was kind of hoping for a shiny special edition border or a nice holographic "Fright Night" logo. It would have been a nice touch.

I'd seriously love for someone to explain why someone buying and reselling a DVD or 'Fright Night' Blu-ray is a "scalper"? And why places like Half Price Books and sellers on Amazon are not considered scalpers? Or real estate flippers who buy rare properties and flip them for a profit? Or people who buy rare automobiles and resell them for twice what they paid? Sorry, it irks me that no one has been able to explain why those people are fine, but doing that with a limited edition movie is wrong (the only reason I can discern is that they consider it 'scalping' when someone is doing it with something you really want). Our whole economy is based on buying and reselling, and for a reason I can't fathom, some of you think that's just terrible even while doing that yourself with rare coins, comic books, or whatever collectable you choose.

I've never seen so many people complain about something, yet have no concete reason why it's wrong (except "not everyone gets one", which is just the same as saying, "life isn't fair").

HOLD ON A SECOND!

There's no Lenticular/Holographic/Embossed/Debossed effect on the slipcover?
There's no slipcover?????

What the hell is the big deal with this release then?

It's not even a Steelbook for chrissakes!

Why would a thread about a non-slipcovered release even get a response here?
(rant over)

Are these shipping yet?

I received my package today here at work....yippee!!

The only problem was that since the package was so heavy, (it was 147 copies after all), the mail room guy's back went out and he fell to the floor screaming in pain when he gave me the package. I know, that sounds really horrible & tragic, but don't worry....I was able to grab the package before he hit the floor so none of the blu-ray cases got damaged. As he was writhing in pain on the floor in tears, I started feeling really bad so I told him I would help him with the medical costs (seeing how I was going to be raking in thousands of $ in scalping these).

So for the person who called us scalpers douchebags earlier....I just want to show you, that yes, some of us scalpers do have a heart!

Not only that, but they didn't even put the blu-ray logo on the case (which isn't even blue). No magnet either. I threw my copy right in the garbage.

People have given reasons why it's wrong a good number of pages back around the time the movie initially sold out. You're new to this repeat conversation.

Also, I don't recall anyone saying that sellers on Amazon that do something similar are Not scalpers. I agree with you on the people who buy homes just to sell later for profit though. All they do is screw over the rest of the middle/lower class by constantly raising property values wherever they flock to just to make some money instead of getting a real ****ing job.

When it comes to automobiles it all depends on if it was restored or not. Someone can buy a run down beat up classic that was neglected and fix it up. It's not them that would up price if they wanted to resell it, it's just that the car is instantly going to be worth more now that it's in good condition/restored. Yes, the seller can price it at what he wants but then you have to think about the time and money he put into restoring the vehicle.

Technically the same could be said about people who flip homes that are run down but most seem to just buy and rent until market value goes up so they can sell for some extra money. Not to mention, a classic restored vehicle isn't really a necessity compared to a home someone could live and survive in. That's basically why I don't care for people who flip homes.

BDInfo scan:

The video bitrate has increased from the 21995 kbps on the initial release. The DTS-HD MA 5.1 is identical to the first release (24-bit, 3794 kbps) and the isolated score track is also the same (16-bit, 1658 kbps). New to this release is a DTS-HD MA 2.0 Stereo track (24-bit, 2100 kbps) and the two audio commentaries.

English subtitles are SDH and in white font. Special features are not subtitled.

All of the extras are in SD, except the Green and Red Band trailers, which are 1080p (with 24-bit DTS-HD MA 2.0 audio).
