I know it's hard to compare Blurays just off screenshots alone. We need to have a website that show side by side comparison of what the two look like in motion. I don't see a dramatic difference tho by the screenshots alone. Are both versions 4k scans or is only the Eureka a 4k scan? I do prefer to go with higher def scans even if it's not noticeable on screenshots alone. As I said I think you can tell by motion which is better.
I've got a couple of the releases, and I'd put my money on the Eureka release as the best of the bunch. It's the best in terms of compression, with natural grain and natural flesh-tones. The image on the TT just looks too bright.

Given the price you can pick this up for, along with the copious extras it comes with, the Eureka edition is a pretty clear choice.

I've seen both releases and to me, the Eureka release look better. I've sold my Twilight Time blu-ray, and kept the Eureka...The Eureka blu-ray will be much easier to find, and cheaper to buy than the Twilight Time blu-ray anyway because, the Twilight Time release is sold out at Screen Achieve Entertainment, and you are going to pay at lease $70.00 on ebay to get it, when you can buy the Eureka for approximately $25.00 to import from the UK.

So the one that isn't as good cost more just because it's so limited? That's kind of stupid. This isn't like a limited video game or something. It's a movie at the end of the day. I didn't even realize the one was going for 70 bucks. That's insane. I wouldn't pay that type of cash for any movie. Hell the 20-30 range is already a decent chunk of change to me since I'm not well off. I do however don't mind out shelling that type of money for a movie if I know I like the movie. I usually go after movies I know I have enjoyed in the past so 25-30 range isn't bad for me personally.

Actually, Twilight Time did release an exclusive, 3000 limited copy release of Fright Night before they've re-release the 30th Anniversary Edition version a few years later, because their first Fright Night Blu-ray had completely sold out very quickly.

That first release was a darker transfer that looks a lot like the Eureka.

1st TT vs second caps.

1st TT version vs Eureka caps.

Since I don't get around to many extras I just stuck with my first TT version. Decision was super-easy when those caps came out!

The Eureka version blows away either of the Twilight Time editions. Better compression makes a world of difference. Glad I sold my 2nd edition TT copy while I still could make a profit on it

This is suitable for some people, but for me personally, I don't judge my blu-ray buying decision based on screencaps because, they're nothing but uploaded still photos and besides, everybody's HDTV or UHDTV is calibrated differently, or it's not properly calibrated at all. To officially determine the overall video quality of a Blu-ray, is to view the entire Blu-ray movie in motion from the beginning to the end.

I had the first Twilight Time disc and I sold it when I was given the Eureka disc for Christmas. The Eureka disc is the better edition.

This might be a little off topic but make sure that you clean the dust off your tv time to time. It makes a world of difference on how clear things look. I would know since I cleaned years of dust off our Samsung 43 or 44 inch hdtv that we purchased in 2008. I think that makes a difference too.

I dipped... finally. I just feel odd paying another $17 for a movie I already own from TT that didn't look all that bad to me to begin with.

I guess I could probably sell it for $17 to make up for this new one, lol

I clean my TV screen at least once a month. Before I sold my Twilight Time disc I did watch both editions and the Eureka disc is better and it has some nice bonus features. I want the best presentation possible as this is one of favorite horror movies.
I got this at Monsterpalooza awhile back.

For anyone selling their TT disc, it still has two exclusive commentaries on it.

A two a half hour documentary compensates for that.

That and I don't know how many people are buying these for commentaries or documentaries. That's not me bashing on the commentary or documentary but I would think most of us are collecting blurays to get the best quality possible from a video source. I'm more concerned about video quality than I am extras. I mean extras are nice don't get me wrong. I usually prefer extras to be stuff that was cut from the movie. It's always interesting to see stuff like that. In the case of Friday the 13th part 4 there was quite a few things cut as well as Friday the 13th part 7.

Not that exclusive. The two commentaries are still available from the place where they first appeared, therefore the TT BD is not really needed.

Icons of Fright (Scroll down to near the bottom for the downloads to each commentary)

Speak for yourself, I despise barebone discs and avoid them like a plague. Some of us love special features, including commentaries, and given a choice between a disc with or without them, I and others always choose with. Why do you think Shout Factory stays in business? Its not their encodes or all the recalled discs, a lot of it is the exclusive special features. I remember when Superbit DVDs that maximized bitrates first started coming out, and would soon fill the bargain bins a couple years later since the average consumer either didn't care about an additional couple MBs or wanted some special features.

Not knocking your opinion or a good PQ/AQ, but a lot of people crave good documentaries and commentaries as well and I think the best discs have both. Sometimes special features are half the fun, especially for movies you've bought/seen many times

There are several movies in my collection I own two different versions of to have all of the available extras. Yeah, I have the Criterion releases of Blow Out, Dressed To Kill and Time Bandits...but I also own the UK Arrow releases with their exclusive selection of extra goodies.. And I'm looking to pick up the Arrow release of The Thing, so I can keep the Scream Factory release next to the 2011 prequel, and the Arrow version in my John Carpenter section.

I have to personally agree. A new video transfer probably wouldn't get me to upgrade a movie I purchased for $10-20 a couple of years ago (this goes triple if it's the same format), however new substantial features will get me to upgrade every time.

Funny you should mention the Superbit DVDs! I remember when they first came out and I saw "The Fifth Element" at my local Video Store and go so excited to see what I initially thought was a Special Edition. Needless to say I did not purchase that disc when I read the back cover.

The Eureka version is really impressive. Best version of Fright Night I’ve seen.

So where does the German copy from Sony sit on the totem pole?
