I have had the original release since it came out, but I will be ordering this tomorrow for the extras since it's one of my favorite horror movies.

SAE could make it as difficult as possible for people to order multiples if they really wanted to. They could limit it to one copy per the following criteria:

- E-mail address, billing address, shipping address, credit card number, IP address, etc.

If any one of those is the same additional orders get denied or automatically cancelled. Sure people could try to circumvent the system but it makes it more difficult for buyers to place multiple orders. You may be able to change email addresses, credit card numbers, IP addresses but it will slow them down. In addition, at some point the buyer will run out of valid billing addresses especially if the billing address and/or shipping address has to be tied to the address associated with the credit card. Same address it gets denied. Address doesn't match the address associated with the card it gets denied.

No. No. No. Didn't you hear that SAE will be cancelling multiple orders.

I'm sure motivated scalpers are laughing at this.
Hey, I respect SAE for placing a few barricades in the way, but if somebody wants something bad enough, they will get it.

lol, SAE is about as backwards a website as you can get. it's laughably easy to bypass their limit of 3 with orders "that will be cancelled"...

TT is putting out films that most US studios wouldn't bother to touch. So, if you look at it from that angle they are doing a great service for the HV enthusiast.
Clearly you have an axe to grind with TT, and I'm not here to change that, as it's your opinion. I'm just saying TT does a heck of lot more good than they do bad. That's all.
Also, as a customer you have the option to never buy from them. So I don't see how this is still an issue with people these days. You don't like TT, fine, there's the door. Everybody wins.
That's only partially true. I think the real truth is that they use self-imposed limits for the specific purpose of creating a limited edition model. Twilight Time probably could have licensed every title thus far sold, using the same (non-limited) model that virtually everyone else uses. In reality a limited edition creates artificial demand, so this extra demand means they can "get away with" charging more. I'm not knocking it at all, it works great for them. But I'm under no illusion they they can't sell titles with no limits (at least made publicly known) like anyone else. They aren't a start up company anymore that can't play by the same rules as the established labels.

It's not that Sony decided this, rather than the face that the generous licensing fee they can get from TT makes more economic sense. If TT wasn't around, then Sony or somebody would definitely be releasing it. After all, it's pretty obvious that it's worth a release, even from Sony if they wanted to. But the difference is that Sony (or anybody else for that matter) probably couldn't get away with charging $30 for it and sell 5000 units at the same time.

All that said, like Criterion, I do have a soft spot for TT. It's mostly because of their signed freebies. That's a nice touch. Getting an autographed signed by Oliver Stone or Pat Boone's, or other important person involved in the movie is pretty cool, IMO. Also I think most of their releases are very good quality.

Yes, I know SAE's statement is hollow. But it's still funny to see that they believe that if they post that statement on their web site it will somehow deter people from placing multiple orders. Or maybe they just want people to think they are deterring resellers.

SAE could easily upgrade their web site from the vintage 1995 look but they won't. If they did that it's less money in their pocket.

Unless a release is actually numbered, the term "Limited Edition" to me, is next to meaningless. Yeah it looks cool on the packaging, but that's where it ends. TT, like many other businesses, will use this as a sales ploy. Again, not their fault, just using what is available to them. If the public is going to whip itself into a frenzy, I think that public needs to do it's due diligence prior to purchasing.
A funny comparison is the "Ultra Limited" Zavvi steelbook. Yeah sure, "Ultra Limited", meanwhile it's available on their website for months.

Like I said a few posts back:
Get what you can. Like what you get.

If the limits weren't working, then how come it takes so long to sell out the last 500 copies or so? I remember when Enemy Mine (the last sell out that had no limits at the end) had about 250 left and then a day later poof they were gone.

Now even a movie like The Blob took about a day for it to sell out the last 50 copies. The limits aren't bullet-proof, but they certainly do slow down the purchase rate and that's what the intent is.

It's like the folks that place a fake camera on their porch, or a blinking LED on their car dash lending the impression there is a car alarm installed.

Anyone that's worked in any field of security will tell you: You just want to make the "target" as unappealing as possible.
Those same folks will also say in the same breath: If someone wants your stuff bad enough, they will find a way to get it.

But I digress, we should be celebrating this great release!

That's the whole purpose, to "whip the public into a frenzy", to whip up "extra demand". Those people who buy just because there's a lot of buzz about it and that it will sell out and probably will resell for more than what they paid for it. It works like a charm.

It may sound crazy to some, but I really haven't even noticed that SAE's website is "archiac". It seems to do a pretty good job at crunch time for the most part.

Good! Sell the product, make the money, and release more titles.

Does anyone know if we'll also be able to preorder through Amazon, or is it strictly through SAE?
