I woke up to this having dropped again, and just managed to get it before it jumped back up, decided it probably merited a double dip. Also went for Valentino and Bande á Part while I was at it (and decided to just stick with MoC's Nosferatu).

Why is Night and the City so pricy? I paid just over £11 on release (I had pre-ordered it). Strange that it should have such a high markup everywhere - not just Amazon!
I guess it is limited edition, but £19.99...really? That's about £4-5 more than your average StudioCanal release. |

Great review of Bande à part at DVD Compare.
Never expected to see the easter egg of the Anna Karina interview for Vivre sa vie. It's nice for BFI to include it here, as they could not have done so when the Blu-ray of it was released last year (the interview was not even conducted back then). The great extras, including the aforementioned easter egg, make this truly a must buy, especially at the current price at Amazon. |

Definitely keeping my Bande à Part pre-order though, and I may also keep Culloden/The War Game as well but we'll see (I'd prefer to see a review first). Not much beyond that I'm hugely interested in personally, except Symptoms and maybe one of the standalone Clarke titles (can't afford the set). I sincerely hope The Wages of Fear is still in the works! Fingers crossed Criterion haven't scuppered their plans - I don't imagine so, but you never know. PS: Shooting Stars sounds great, and I'd buy it sooner if I didn't already have a bunch of silents to get through. Cracked open MoC's Caligari disc the other day and very much enjoyed it! |

Yes, As the DVDCompare review says, the "Farewell My Concubine" Blu transfer is not so good, but due to the source elements it seems. The review for "Shooting Stars" on the other hand is excellent.
And the Ken Russell sets, expecting those will be great. |

Yeah, the DVDBeaver review too. I will still definitely get it - I've never seen the film, and would love to - but will wait a little white first. A shame they couldn't make it more tempting in the extras department.
As for Shooting Stars, I'm glad they released it (I thought they might after it played at LFF). I wonder if they'll ever be able to upgrade A Cottage in Dartmoor? I was interested in the DVD of that but I'd be even happier with a Blu-ray... |
