Just seen on DVDcompare that it's

A) CUT
B) The Shorter US version

It appears that the UNCUT version is on BD in Germany & Scandinavia. NOT sure if the English audio track includes subs for the French & Russian language bits.

No details as yet, but there's an entry on the BFI shop. Hope they reveal more soon.
The movie itself is a classic of Indian cinema.

There are no uncut BD or DVD releases - all are the 130 minute US cut. The only release of the 139 minute UK version was the UK Connoisseur VHS, which had censor cuts and a racking problem in one scene.

I asked on Facebook, it includes India Cabaret as one of the extras.

Ben Stoddart has posted today in the BFI DVD & Blu-ray Facebook group that The Bed Sitting Room (Flipside #1) is now deleted.

Quote:
"We did try hard to renew it, but were unable to unfortunately. There are some units at Amazon, BFI Shop and other retailers but not many so if you are missing it from your collection then you may want to act fast!"
He also said that they have successfully renewed Valentino and Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush via the same route (Park Circus).

FYI (booklet watch):

Received two more £6.99 BFI BDs today from HMV:
After the Fox - Scanavo with booklet
Equus (2-BD) - Scanavo with booklet

(Both recent releases so booklet inclusion not unexpected.)

Me too. I'm happy with the Blakes 7 DVDs.
I just worry that if they try to upgrade it to blu they'll muck it up.
The DVDs are good ones - let's just leave it at that.
I couldn't stand them messing up my favourite TV series.

Was Blake’s 7 filmed or shot on videotape? I’d love to see a BD upgrade of The Sandbaggers if that’s possible.

Blakes 7 was made mainly on videotape in the BBC's television studios.
But there was also outdoor location work on film (16mm i guess, definitely the lower quality - this is the BBC we're talking about, lol.)
About 85% videotape, 15% film i'd say, although obviously it varied episode by episode.
A few episodes had little or no film work at all, 'Orbit', for instance - the only film work in the whole episode is some (rather nice) modelwork.

And the DVDs I've always thought look perfectly fine. I've always been very happy with them.
Obviously in an ideal world , yes I'd like it all restored and upscaled to Blu-ray to the same standard as the Classic Dr Who series are getting at the moment.
By professionals who know what they're doing and understand the elements they're dealing with and how best to present them on Blu-ray discs.
But I worry instead it'd be some Fawlty Towers/Day of the Triffids cock-up scenario we'd get.

Sorry, I don't know anything about The Sandbaggers.

FYI (booklet watch):

Received the last of the £6.99 BFI BDs that I'm likely to order from HMV for a while as I'm now all BFI-ed up for the foreseeable:
Salò (2019 release) - Blue Amaray without booklet (as expected)
Tokyo Story (2020 4K remaster) - Scanavo with booklet (which was nice as I'd had a previous order cancelled due to no stock so was expecting a bookletless repress)

Ben Stoddart has posted the following this morning on the BFI DVD & Blu-ray Facebook page:

Quote:
**SOLD OUT LTD EDITION** Our 2-disc limited edition release of Paul Verhoeven's Spetters has now sold out from warehouse. HMV are holding the most stock (145 units) and no doubt there are a few at other retailers. Once gone it's gone. It will be re-issued as a 1-disc edition with no booklet. The only extras will be the audio commentary, video essay, assorted trailers and image gallery.
Michael Brooke made the following comment on the post:

Quote:
It really is worth people going out of their way to get the two-disc edition, as the retrospective documentary on 'Spetters' is worth the price on its own. I particularly liked the bloke from the official film funding board who utterly loathed the film from the moment the project was first mooted, strongly opposed backing it, and has continued to badmouth it ever since, much to Paul Verhoeven's visible delight. And Verhoeven's appearance on a Dutch chat show in full gelled-up leather-clad rocker outfit has to be seen to be believed.

Man, people weren't kidding when they said the Herzog set packaging was bad. had like 3 discs rattling when it showed up and feels like anytime I hold the thing one is going to fall out lol. Glad they have seemed to move away from that with the likes of the Kore-eda and Dietrich box sets at least.

The Sandbaggers is with Network. At least, their Complete Series DVD set is still in print.

Interesting. Because mine was fine on arrival to Australia and they still sit snugly in there. I must've been lucky!
