I wonder if any of those blu-rays are the ones that have been affected more by the stock problems.
I'm still waiting on my order, which also included Scandal. Not sure if that's one of the titles holding things up.

BFI really need to make their booklets full Scanavo size. My order arrived today and every one of them is dog-eared from when its been sliding around in the case.

Yes, at first I figured it'd take a month or two for them to catch up with the different case, but at this point it's just lazy.

I don't understand how they still haven't adapted to Scanavo cases. Either change the booklet format or pick an appropriate case. The current situation is a travesty.

Not sure if it has already been noted but does anyone know how long the BFI sale will run for?

Try this link, not mine taken from General HMV Thread there are plenty of others there if this one does not work. Enter an email address and it should produce a code. Your HMV account does not have to be linked to the email address.

https://hmv.mention-me.com/me/refere...321eade8/ol/cw

Or go to the General HMV Thread and ask for someone to PM you a code.

Probably the same as last year considering I recall titles still being on sale near Christmas as I gave a list of several titles to one of my brothers near Christmas time to get & I got Play for Today Vol 3 set as well as the Bill Morrison one.

The BFI release of Fanny and Alexander has a listed runtime of 321 minutes while the Criterions is listed as 312 minutes on their website. Is that a typo or is it due to different framerates? Or is it really a longer cut?
In other words, is there a reason to get the BFI release if I already have the Criterion Bergman set?

It's a typo on Criterion's site; the set runs 321 mins or so on both:
https://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/f...=18406#overall

No reason to get the UK version, as far as I can see, if you have the Criterion. The only exclusive is the booklet (or book if you were to get the relevant BFI Bergman box).

Default Fanny and Alexander

Regarding Fanny and Alexander, the BFI set has the best encoding if that matters. If I remember correctly, I noticed a bump in encoding on the Criterion Bergman set compared to the Criterion standalone, which I always thought was below average. I don't have the standalone anymore to compare. If you have a big TV or are sensitive to encoding, the BFI will be a bump up, especially over the standalone Criterion. If you're happy with the Criterion, it's the same master on both, so stick with it.

According to dvdbeaver, there is a slight bump in bitrates at the two Criterion editions, but not much more than 1 Mbps

Is there any particular reason to hope that with the recent BFI blitz, that ITV might be compelled to release any more of the Powell & Pressburger titles absent from UK Blu-ray? Assuming they hold rights to the majority, appreciate I might be wrong. Couldn't really be a better time to bring them to market, one would think, but I suppose it's ITV we're talking about.

Watching 49th Parallel on their streaming service, it's such a shame we've never had a decent Blu here (are Criterion and Carlotta the only ones?).

There is no Criterion Blu; the Carlotta is decent but could be bettered.

My mistake; there's a US release under Blu-ray for the film's listing on this site, which I assumed would have been Criterion, but I didn't click through the link. Obviously just a placeholder.

I finally got around to watching Underground 1928 yesterday - I was so impressed! The storytelling, camerawork and new Neil Brand score make this one of the greatest Silent Films for me. Aside from a few scenes which are less sharp the image quality is terrific. The film has a very modern feel and was an absolute joy!

Does anyone know anything about the likelihood of an upgrade of A Cottage on Dartmoor? Really interested to see that now.
