Refreshed to the existing artwork? I have the 2010 release. Artwork is the same.

I wasn’t in a position to buy this but pretty soon after it was released Ben on the FB group said it was selling so fast if you wanted it with a booklet you had to be quick. As a P&P fan I had to bite the bullet and buy it

Worth joining the group if your not in it already

I recall Ben saying it would likely sell out (ie booklet) by the end of December.

This is what Ben Stoddart posted on the 1st of December:

Quote:
The first pressing with booklet of this (2,000 copies) is selling quite well. If you want it, I would buy it this month. In stock with all retailers to my knowledge...
He has never followed up and said it was close to selling out or indeed was sold out, so while it may have sold out, they may as well not have sold as many up to Christmas as he expected at that point.

BFI's own webshop are quite reliable when it comes to updating info about booklets. When a second pressing is done without the booklet, they will normally either delete any mention of the booklet or state that it is no longer available. Bluebeard's Castle is still sold as coming with a booklet.

If you got one without a booklet, I would try to reach out to Ben Stoddart in the BFI DVD, Blu-ray & UHD Facebook group. I have seen him help other people out before, sending them a spare booklet.

For the sake of clarification, I just asked Ben on FB whether the first pressing with booklet is still available or not. Will update as soon as he replies.

So, sort of an update from Ben regarding the first pressing of Bluebeard's Castle.

I asked whether the first pressing was sold out now or still available, and I mentioned that the listing on BFI's webshop still appeared to include the booklet.

He replied:

Quote:
All the stock that the BFI Shop has definitely includes the booklet. To be honest, I'm very confident all the stock at Amazon and HMV has it as well but I can only be 100% sure regards the BFI Shop.
I then mentioned that I would probably be ordering one from Amazon.

Ben replied:

Quote:
Pretty sure you'll be fine. They have plenty of units and I know they are all first pressing ones.
I should probably have asked him straight out if he knew whether a second pressing had been made yet. But at least we now know the first pressing is still easily obtainable.

I feel like we're more likely to get the Ozu set from BFI down the line

Worth noting that Studio Canal just released A Kid for Two Farthings in their Classics line, and Room at the Top is coming next month. They might be new transfers, or they might be the same. Hopefully, reviews will come out soon.

Took a chance on Amazon UK still having stock of the booklet version and lucked out. Didn’t really think of ordering from them initially because of years of wacky shipping and availability thanks to

for international buyers.

Yeah, I have a copy in the mail from Amazon UK, too. Hope it comes with the booklet. Otherwise it will go back, and I will just pick it up in the local shop, where I can check for a booklet through the clear case.

Kinda stupid really. The same shop just had 20% off last weekend, where I picked up a couple of other BFI titles. I was thinking about getting Bluebeard, but forgot all about it once I was inside.

Are the only Powell writings in the booklet excerpts from his autobiography? I just got a copy that did not include the booklet, and if that’s all they are then I’m not gonna be too fussed about it since I already have both of his autobiographies and I wasn’t really interested in any of the other booklet content.

Film's a must have.
Does anyone know if the aspect ratio: 1.66:1 of the Artificial Eye DVD will be retained or not?

This is neither here nor there, but I take great satisfaction in knowing Chocolat was restored by Eclair Classics.

The prologue for Bluebeard’s Castle is the only Powell penned feature in the booklet but there are nice pieces from Bertrand Tavernier & Ian Christie (of course) and mini bio’s of both the players & designer Hein Heckroth. *** Sight & Sound likened the sets The Singing Ringing Tree from the same era and medium but for me the similarity ends there.

Neither here nor there? So where do you like a third lopped off? Top? Bottom? Bit of both? Frames from just the first 10 minutes. I ask because of the fashionable madness for a wider screen image destroying compositions willy nilly
