I still like Kermode a lot. I don't always agree with him, perhaps less now than I used to, but I still like to hear what he has to say.

But then again I also like Cousins - in moderate quantities - and many of those youtubers that seem to come under fire here, so what do I know.

Everyone you don't agree with can now be labelled 'elite'. So actors, directors, writers, critics are disposable at best, unless they have exactly the same views as yourself. Never any acknowledgement that getting to the top, or even making money in those professions, very rarely sustains you through your career. Not really a fan of Kermode, but when that era of pre-internet critics dies out or retires, we'll be left with Youtube 'influencer' levels of critical thought.

The first thing to ask any celebrity should be what is it that first attracted you to the industry that spends billions of dollars telling us how much we love celebrities.

I don't think Kermode is really capable of psy-opping anyone. The question to ask is does his approach help him to get laid.

Received Stray Dog and watched the film for the first time. This was so sweaty hot. At times it felt like post war Downtown Tokyo must be part of a desert and Murakami needs to find a well to survive the dehydration. This was so well photographed, especially the heavy clouds of heat who got as daydream blurry as the morals of the detective. Since I'm an avid fan of Noir I very much enjoyed this cat and mouse game. Another very humanist story by master Kurosawa.
