Some of the artwork is popping up now. I really like the cover for Night and the City, the rest are okay...not sure about the Nosferatu cover though.

To answer my own question, Murder in the Cathedral is not a Flipside title. Beautiful cover nonetheless.

Here's an example (via Nitrateville) that shows the superior framing of the Photoplay version of Birth of a Nation

The Nosferatu cover is awful. It looks like it's aimed at the supermarket horror film buyers.

Just needs some terrible quote from Total Film.

Yikes, that's bad. If I were going purely on cover art, the MoC would be an easy choice.

I wonder which will be the superior release once both are out and can be compared?

I don't think it's that bad, but it's not brilliant either. I guess they want to differentiate it from the MoC release. What they used for their DVD was quite similar in style and colour to the MoC.

They should just have chosen a different piece of original art. There's plenty to chose from! This film has loads of great artwork.

Interesting that they have the 1922 Nosferatu. I cant see how this will beat the Eureka/Masters of Cinema release.

Is this seriously gonna be the artwork? ... It's not even authentic since they changed the font and everything.

Full lineup announcement is here then: http://www.bfi.org.uk/news-opinion/n...ds-autumn-2015

So I've already pre-ordered Night and the City, Rocco and His Brothers and The Wages of Fear, and will probably eventually get the Otto Preminger Film Noir Collection, as well as Nosferatu, Pasolini, and maybe The Birth of a Nation...though I'm still gonna be playing catch-up on some of their releases from earlier this year (Welles, Chaplin, Bill Morrison set, and the Rossellini sets).

Most surprising though is they seem to be releasing Ousmane Sembčne's Black Girl and Borom Sarret as a double-bill, presumably on DVD only but that's definitely one to watch out for! Be amazing if it was Blu-ray but I'll still happily get it if it's not...seems to be DVD-only from that announcement.

Bit of a disappointing way to mark Halloween, a bunch of DVD re-releases and a title already released on Blu-ray. There isn't a great deal left in the BBC archives admittedly (though Penda's Fen would have filled the void), and I've just about given up hope of either BFI or Network getting the ITV Woman in Black out, though something new would have been nice. Perhaps we were just spoiled by those Gothic and Sci-fi seasons. In any case, Murder in the Cathedral is the stand-out for me here, really looking forward to that one.

I would beg to differ! Not only Penda's Fen, but also the rest of Alan Clarke's works and Ken Russell's and Peter Watkins'. To name but a few.

Black Girl on DVD-only would be a kick in the teeth unless MoC have got Blu-Ray rights. It's a brand new 4K restoration for crying out loud.

Sorry I should have been more clear - I was referring to productions with a horror, appropriately Halloween tinge. Obviously there are many, many more BBC productions besides that need to be released!

I preordered everything but Nation and Nosferatu, and I'll be continuously checking the price on that Preminger set because it's gotta go down. Maybe we should get together a joint credit card or something rapta I would've never expected so much from BFI at the moment after their sort of epic first half of the year! Great stuff. I still have the Bergman Rossellini set coming as well

Really? Dammit, I hope it's on Blu-ray then! No listing for it yet...hmm...would be great if Eureka got it on Blu-ray though. There should be at least one other African title in their MoC collection other than Trances (from WCP Vol. 1). I'd also like them to get an Iranian film if possible (I was thinking they could license The Wind Will Carry Us from Cohen, assuming AE don't still have UK rights).

I'd love to get everything the BFI are putting out but I know they'll drop in price a few months after release. I could've waited for the Dreyer set and saved myself a few quid, but oh well. I don't mind pre-ordering the single-disc/Dual Format releases though as they tend to be about Ł11 on Amazon on release day these days (usually in line with the HMV price).

I sent that Bergman-Rossellini set back to MovieMail and haven't been refunded yet...been over a week and I'm getting worried! I did email them and they said it can take up to 3 weeks which doesn't sound right (I've returned stuff to them before).

EDIT: hold up, IT IS DUAL FORMAT! Black Girl/Borom Sarret that is -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Borom-.../dp/B0133E8EGQ

Very happy! Day-one for me. Great to see some more African cinema hitting Blu-ray...

Fantastic!

Yeah, Black Girl and Borom Sarrat are actually WCP restorations. I wonder why the BFI got them instead of MoC? Though I remember Craig Keller saying that the BFI had a claim to Manila in the Claws of Light, so perhaps there was a swap of some sort?

Cohen doesn't actually own The Wind Will Carry Us but licensed it from the same people as AE did. The WCP has restored Bahram Beyzaie's Downpour and there are, of course, many other Iranian films that it would be great to see released - the works of Mohammed-Ali Talebi, Mohsen Makhmalbaf's A Moment of Innocence, Samira Makhmalbaf's The Apple, Jafar Panahi's White Balloon, The House Is Black - but I suspect that materials may prove difficult for some of them.
