Hey...I got my copy of "The Valley" yesterday...I won't be able to watch it until Saturday.

Has anyone watched this yet and if so, what did you think?

They are a well established site and I've had no problems with any orders. I'm afraid I can't comment about sales to the USA as I'm UK based.

Exactly my position. I'm told The Edge Of The World also suffers, so that's one upgrade that will have to wait.

Hated it. Found watching it a chore. Self-indulgent, dull and really not needing an HD release at all given the quality of the source material.

Good to know. I was thinking of upgrading as well. Guess I'll hang on to my dvd.

Well...I finally watched it this morning. It's like a cross between "Easy Rider", "Baraka" and arthouse. I have to differ with you on the PQ...there are a lot of scenes that look very impressive, considering the age of this film.

I figure that you're either a fan of this film or not. I think this was one of the first attempts at filming the aboriginies in their "home".

I haven't watched the short films yet, but will let you know what I think.

I walked into this film with no big expectations and bought it, based on the soundtrack and a curiosity of the subject matter.

I thought the cinematography was beautiful...color schemes gorgeous and the resolution pretty good and consistent for an almost 40 year old film.

Hey...it's a bit "hippy-dippy", but I expected that. The scenes of the journey were beautiful and the interactions with the aboriginies educational and sweet.

There were trailers included for three of Schroder's films, including this one and "More". Any talk of BFI releasing "More" on blu MichaelB?

I tried to add it to the Db last night, but the admin didn't approve. Presumably due to its unconfirmed status, who knows, I may have screwed something up. Anyway the cover art is up. Dual Format.

Question to those that know their Japanese cinema/Ozu films better than me...

I recently saw Tokyo Story (first time) and really enjoyed it. Considering the slow pace of the film the 2+ hours seemed to fly by. Anyway, I noticed that the BFI have released the "Noriko Trilogy", comprising of Late Spring, Early Summer and the aforementioned Tokyo Story. Is this literally the same character in all 3 films? Is it the same actors playing the same relatives in all 3 films? Forgive my ignorance but have only seen Tokyo Story so far, but really liked the Noriko character (and the actress playing her) in that film.

But please don't let that put you off - the other two films are at least as good as Tokyo Story, if not better. Tokyo Story is regarded disproportionately highly in Ozu's output more because for many decades it was the easiest of his films to see in the West, not because it was necessarily the most creatively outstanding.
Thanks for your reply Will go ahead and order these two films now. Most sites are doing them for £12.99 each at the moment (Dual format editions). If I like these as well what other Ozu films should I seek out?

Does the Ozu films come in standard blue Amaray package or are the cases transparent? Witch BFI BD's are packed in the transparent cases?
