The extras for Psychomania are looking interesting.

Redemption's recent announcement of The Orchard End Murder mentions that it's a BFI restoration which the BFI will be releasing on Blu-ray themselves. Hopefully this could be part of a "Short Sharp Shocks" Flipside edition featuring a number of British horror/thriller shorts.

I've spent most of my free time this week chipping away at the Alan Clarke and Ken Russell BBC sets. BFI have really done a great job with these collections. I'm over the moon that these two legendary British filmmakers have been given such spotlight this year. I've long been waiting to dig deep into their work and I'm happy to do so in such style. The presentation and supplements are wonderful. Glad all this amazing BBC work has been saved from potential obscurity. The only downside is that the BFI couldn't get Russell's Dance of the Seven Veils out there. Oh well!

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they have that one pencilled in for the first quarter of 2020.

Has anybody had any luck with getting replacement cases off BFI and who do I contact?

I've noticed a couple of occasions where Amazon have dropped the price of an item the day after it came out

I received this week's BFI releases and all but one (I Am Belfast) had dropped in price to £10.99. This one though was £14.99 on Monday (the day of release) and checking on an Amazon price tracking site, I noticed that the next day it had dropped to £10.99

I won't even bother complaining as they won't refund the difference, but it does make me more and more reluctant to pre-order anything knowing that the day after the Pre-Order Price Guarantee is over, the price could drop. The other title I had this problem with recently was the latest Second Run DVD

I have moaned about this before in the past, but it seems to happen fairly regularly. The only reason I noticed this is because I have a budget spreadsheet which I update on a regular basis

For small reductions, I just accept it, but I have contested significant price drops in the past, and Amazon has been happy to refund the difference.

For example, I pre-ordered The Velvet Underground Live at The Matrix CD box set last year, which dropped in price by some £15 the day after mine was shipped. Amazon didn't argue the toss on that one. The woman was like, "Yes, I see that. I'll process a refund for the difference right away."

Try them. In my experience, they're very good with these things.

I find it a good idea to always check the pre-release prices of BFI blu-rays on HMV.com as they tend to drop them to £10.99ppd around a week before release.

The only reason Amazon UK seem to reduce their prices is to price match HMV and occasionally don't do this immediately meaning customers loose out.

Thanks. I'll do that as I'd rather give my money to HMV and the delivery is quicker and I'm also trying to get to 500,000 Pure Points as soon as possible

Something weird going on with On the Black Hill. The BFI Shop and Zavvi listings both state it will be a Dual Format Edition (Blu-ray + DVD) release, but the BFI announcement and Amazon listing say it's DVD-only and the current pack-shot is definitely for a DVD title.

But I asked BFI on Twitter and they confirmed it is Dual Format Edition. It's very strange they haven't made that clear to anybody, including anyone who might be pre-ordering via Amazon! You would think that it would be good news for those of us who are concentrating significantly more on their Blu-ray titles.

Dual format or just DVD I'm buying it anyway.

Anyone here picked up A Month In the Country? What a charming and effecting movie. Wasn't sure what I was buying and dreaded I may be in store for 90 minutes of repressed unspoken passion between Colin Firth and Natasha Richardson but thankfully that isn't the focus at all. It's much more interesting than that.

It's also insane that a 1987 British production featuring two guys who went on to be quite big stars plus a shedload of well known character actors was until recently a semi-lost film (original elements missing presumed lost). I mean who the hell was in charge of the Film 4 archive back in the 80's, Denis O'Brien?

I had the same disappointment about the late price drop of I Am Belfast. Amazon used to refund these differences but I asked these £4 and was rebuked so it might have changed. I'll know better : most of the BFI releases drop to £10.99 anyway at some point.

Heads up for anyone waiting for this to drop in price: Black Girl/Borom Sarret suddenly down to £8.95 from eBay seller BellaSalute (similar price also on Amazon Marketplace)

Paris Blues and Odds Against Tomorrow coming 24th October:

Also, that would suggest The Glass Shield will be DVD only?

Odds Against Tomorrow is obviously great news, and Paris Blues looks interesting too (finally some Martin Ritt on UK Blu-ray).

However, I'll be quite annoyed if they fail to release The Glass Shield on Blu-ray. I was itching for some Charles Burnett on UK Blu-ray, and if they're bailing on that title I hope they consider doing something else by him in the near future. Perhaps something they've released on DVD already like Killer of Sheep or My Brother's Wedding?

PS: what's the actual release date for The Crying Game? Amazon now saying November 21st, but BFI still saying September 19th...

Also, I'm surprised the BFI aren't releasing Stormy Weather on Blu-ray as part of this season. Perhaps somebody else picked it up?
