Two quick questions.

Anybody know is La Noire De... (Black Girl) is in the HMV 5 for £30 deal? And has anybody seen it/recommend it?

I think it is actually, and is one of their best discs. Was in my Top 10 last year. Beautiful film, and a rare chance to see one of the most important films from an African filmmaker. Bargain for £10.99 on release, and even more so for almost half that (if it is in the offer).

Fantastic, I've been putting off purchasing this for a while this just gives me the chance to grab it as well as some other titles.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Actually, I don't think it's actually in the HMV offer but it's only £7.50 on Amazon right now! That's an excellent price.

If you don't already have it, I'd pick up MoC's World Cinema Project set too. Three other essential and hard-to-find films restored by WCP/The Film Foundation, and one of which isn't in the Criterion box set. Can be bought for ridiculously low prices these days too, if you keep an eye out (£15 or less).

Black Girl is in stock and £8:29 ppd at Base.com:

http://www.base.com/-/-/BFIB1223/pro...5271e424d61cff

If you haven't got Prime it's even better value than Amazon UK.

It's well worth picking up at any price. Not only for an interesting and thoughtful movie but also a generous amount of additional on disc material.

Yeah BFI really pushed the boat out on that one. Ditto Eyes Without a Face, which was well worth the wait!

Just been to Fopp and I can confirm that the BFI sale is on there too (well it is in the Glasgow Fopp anyway). Saw most of the titles mentioned above for £6.

Any Flipside titles in the Fopp sale? Or primarily just the same selection as HMV?

Same selection. Something to note as well: You can now redeem Fopp receipts for HMV Pure points as they now run the same till system.

Yes I went into my local HMV yesterday (Shepherds Bush Westfield) and they only had the more prestige titles you'd expect (Seven Samurai, Tokyo Story, Rashamon, Man With A Movie Camera) sucks that it's not apart of the deal but I'm heading into Central London today for business so a trip to Fopp might be in order to see if any other titles are featured in the offer.

I'm tempted to just pick it up on amazon as there ae not many titles I'd really be drawn to otherwise besides MOC Birth Of A Nation is only £7.99 as well which is something I feel as if I should watch.

I'm making my way through some titles in the MOC will 100% check that title out.

Yeah I've yet to get either the MoC or BFI version of The Birth of a Nation (although kicking myself for not when the MoC was about £6). I think the BFI edition is supposedly more comprehensive, and the transfers are different too, but MoC's Man with a Movie Camera is far better than BFI's so it's worth looking at some reviews first for these much older titles.

Rashomon and Tokyo Story are must-buys. Seven Samurai quite good but worst of BFI's Kurosawa transfers...I'd recommend buying their Kurosawa Samurai Collection if you can get it for a fair price.

Sadly Fopp in Covent Garden didn't have the best selection of titles and they were pushing hard on the BFI DVD selection so i took the plunge and ordered them both off amazon.

Thanks for the advice but i already own Rashomon and Toyko Story and they really are a great package!

Since it doesn't have its own review, can anyone please share a considered opinion on how the BFI Nosferatu compares to the previous MoC one?
