Ah yeah, forgot to check Park Circus!

Well I hope they do, because then we might finally get Local Hero and When the Wind Blows (and possibly even My Beautiful Laundrette, unless Criterion UK get there first).

While the likes of P'tang, Yang & Kipperbang and She'll Be Wearing Pink Pyjamas are probably a little too niche and low key to get a blu-ray release (in the case of the later hardly a great loss) HD releases of such 80's and 90's made for cinema but seemingly on TV every other week fare such as Wish You Were Here (a personal favourite), Bhaji On the Beach and of course Local Hero would be Great. Confirmation of Rita... and Letter To Brezhnev seem to mean this isn't outside the realms of possibility.

Review of the upcoming Lino Brocka double-bill: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film6/blu-r...ms_blu-ray.htm

Looks impressive! Insiang is in particularly good shape here. I will definitely have to pick this up sometime this year, but hope it drops to around £15-£20 at some point as the current price is quite steep (and I already have a lot of pre-orders for next month).

Posted the below in the Chaplin Essanay thread in response to a post but maybe better asked here.

I have bought Eyes Without A Face, An Autumn Afternoon, The Innocents, The Leopard and Bande A Part within the last 6 months. Can anybody please tell me which of these have had a disc replacement and roughly how long ago? Just wondering if there is anything wrong with the ones I have.

I think An Autumn Afternoon had one, but you may have to search to find out whether you have the right disc or not. I seem to remember the original discs weren't encoded properly, meaning the PQ was a little worse than it was meant to have been.

Did I hear something similar about The Leopard once? I can't remember, and I also don't know if my disc is affected. I think I checked with the BFI a while ago though, and they sent me a correct disc for the above Ozu.

Thanks. I should probably fire off an email to BFI and see if they can help.

I'd be very surprised if any original discs of The Leopard are still in circulation - I was still at the BFI when those were withdrawn and reissued, and I left six years ago.

There's nothing wrong with Bande à Part or Eyes Without a Face as far as I'm aware, apart from one of the booklet essays referring to Le Sang des Bêtes as though it was on the Eyes disc (which was the situation when I wrote it, but they didn't change it once it dropped out). The Innocents had playback issues on a small number of machines, but for all I know they've all had their firmware updated since then.

Re Eyes Without A Face I read another post saying 40 seconds was missing from the master.

I'd love the BFI could get some much-wanted Film4 titles like The Straight Story, Local Hero, Ghost Dog and When the Wind Blows, assuming they've got a relationship with Film4 that few other UK labels seem to have.
Well the fact that Film4 productions get a lot of funding through BFI, it's probably pretty easy for BFI to license stuff.

The Eyes without a Face BFI disc actually doesn't miss anything, it's my mistake. Only the Gaumont disc is incomplete.

Bande à part has chroma issues like the Gaumont disc, which Criterion managed to avoid.

I'd love to see the BFI give The Young Girls of Rochefort a blu-ray upgrade. Especially in light of the recent success of La La Land, I know people who are eager to check the film out and the restoration of it looks gorgeous based on what I've seen.

New BFI announcements: http://www.bfi.org.uk/news-opinion/n...ke-blu-ray-dvd

Max Ophüls' Madame de... coming to Dual Format! Best news of the three, in my opinion. Been wanting some Ophüls on UK Blu-ray (other than La Ronde).

Supposedly the Criterion edition uses a faulty remaster from Gaumont (DNR liberally applied), before they re-restored and later released it themselves. I suspect the BFI release will use the 'proper' Gaumont restoration, and might even be able to fix the audio too (which is reportedly problematic on the Gaumont disc).

Yeah, this one is potentially quite exciting as the Criterion disc is poor.

Wow great news!

I have the French release which I think is very good. However none of the extras had English subtitles. If this has good extras I will double-dip for sure.

Would highly recommend to anyone who hasn't seen this film. A true masterpiece!

Totally agree. One of the highlights from my last year or two of disc watching. More than happy to give it another dip, if there's value added. (Some English subs to go with those French extras would be nice, if any of them get ported over.)
