MichaelB,

I saw Edge of the World the other night. Generally it has a very fabulous picture but there are 3-4 instances of glaring pixellisation and/or macroblocking.

Not sure if you know but any ideas why a higher bitrate was not used for these scenes? the feature file size seems to a very low ~11 GB.

looks like amazon.uk is having a bfi blowout sale of the remaining non dual release titles.
most all of them are dirt cheap right now--like 5 pounds a piece.
amazing!
time to go shopping!

there's not that many--maybe like 6 or so.
I should maybe have been a little more accurate.
all the Arden stuff is available though--I've been wanting to see those 3 for a long time.
looks like the time has come.
I just can't believe they are only 6 pounds each.
that's a steal for sure!

Yeah, but there's still a risk of your purchase being "cancelled" and the titles declared "out of stock", just like they did before...

hadn't heard about that.
hopefully that won't happen.
on another note: I just bought a copy of bfi's dvd of "Cry of the City" from an amazon seller.
that is one rare film to get on dvd in an official version.
I've been wanting to see that film noir forever--it is on every list of great film noirs I come across.
so excited to finally get a copy!

Lately I've been having anxiety about dvds going out of print and never getting blu-ray releases. Hard thing to predict, at least for lesser known titles. Been checking out a lot of titles in amazon marketplace, as your post is making me want to do again!

We were just talking about that on page 24.
But hey, wish that they don`t do this with those remaining titles.

It's quite upsetting that the BFI chose to issue the Early Kurosawa set as DVD only. All titles included (and every Kurosawa directed feature I believe) are out on BD in Japan. I know that it probably wouldn't sell well but I find it hard to believe that there is more of a market for the Flipside titles or indeed the majority of the titles the BFI have issued on Blu-Ray than any Kurosawa title.

Most of the Kurosawa Blu-rays released in Japan look pretty bad as far as I know.

I've got a question about BFI/MoC/Arrow Academy. Are they somehow involved with each other? The back of Red Desert has a very similar layout to some of the MoC titles.

No, they are independent of one another. Certain stylistic designs work well, it seems, and other things, like BBFC certificates, are mandated by the VPRC.

Ordered Optimum's Peeping Tom from TheHut but I wanted to use my discount coupon (-15% for 2 Blu-rays) so I went ahead and pre-ordered L'age d'Or / Un chien andalou as well. Hoping it won't disappoint.
