So I'm wanting to delve into Spanish cinema but I only really know of El Sur, which I plan to pick up soon. Can anyone recommend some classics that are available on blu ray? (preferably UK releases) It would be greatly appreciated.

Gracias
Apart from what DefLeppard has suggested, this is a terrific film (US release but region free):

It's no letting me multi quote unfortunately (perhaps I'm doing something wrong).

Thanks a lot for the recommendations, some aren't of the genres I typically watch but I'm really wanting to learn as much about Spain as possible from history books, music, cinema and so on.

Really appreciated folks!

Surely no odd than an avatar featuring a light beam illuminating what appears to be a really strange desert place?

Nick's an old friend, btw.

Great film. Unsure if the re-print has booklet or not but first print (which I own) is being listed at silly price on Amz.

Couldn't agree with you more on this.Bunuel, Fernando Rey and Catherine Deneuve! Great film and a nice cover art (ignoring that big C) so will be getting this Cohen version eventually even though the AE box set is top of my wishlist.

You can find a lot of these ones on Amz Spain (since it is Region B) like the below one- legit release by Fox with eng sub. Vacas covert art reminds me of Pink Floyd's Atom heart mother album's cover. Spirit of the Beehive is another classic by Erice but Eng subtitled one is long OOP [Criterion DVD].

There's a lot of upcoming titles from BFI (it's in the news section, but I always forget to look there):

https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=22846

Must get 'An Actor's Revenge' - March 26th (been meaning to see that for ages).

BRAND NEW 4K RESTORATION of the film.

Special features:

New audio commentary by critic, programmer, and Japanese film expert Tony Rayns

100 Years of Japanese Film (Nagisa Oshima, 1995, 52 mins): the award winning director of In the Realm of the Senses (1976), explores the first century of Japanese cinema

Oriental Splendour, Japan Pays Homage, To Rid Their Souls of Evil, and In Old Japan (1927-1930, 4 mins): four films about Japan made for the Topical Budget newsreel

Fully illustrated booklet with new writing by James Bell, Espen Bale, and Vic Pratt, plus original review and full film credits.

A breathtaking set of announcements from BFI.

I never thought I'd live to see The Touch getting a quality release. Day one purchase for me. (and spare me the "it's a bad movie why bother" comments - I'm glad you had the chance to watch it and form an opinion; I haven't). Definitely in for the other Bergman and the Ichikawa as well.

Preemptive arguing is a good idea, especially if you're heading out without your phone.

I like the new cover art but the one we had before this was nice too and I hope it'd make it as booklet front art.

I'd preordered An Actor's Revenge last week before I realised that Criterion was also putting out a version of their own. But the specs on both equal each other out and the 4k source seems to be coming from the same place, so I'm keeping my BFI copy.

The Magic Flute is now in HMV's 2 for £25:

https://store.hmv.com/film-tv/blu-ray/the-magic-flute

Never seen it - may add MoC's 'Cure' into the order now

They're both released on 23rd April.
