I think at one point it dropped as low as £21 on Zavvi.

I intended to pick this up in the next few months so glad to hear it's not going OOP.

No it was Dreyer, I do remember. (I made a similar inquiry about it to "the BFI team" back when it was becoming hard to find everywhere, inquiring about its availability and about getting replacement packaging for the mess that amazon made of mine. The packaging was available, and more copies of the Dreyer set would soon be available as well was the response at the time.) That was well before anything Rossellini.

So I guess we're never getting a release of Alfred Hitchcock's The Pleasure Garden then. BFI uploaded the restoration trailer to YouTube 7 years ago and still nothing, not even a digital release.

The BFI never had the rights, they just carried out the restoration. ITV have the rights and they've never bothered.

Arte currently has some British Hitchcock films in their mediatheque:
  • The Ring 1927
  • The Manxman 1929
  • Blackmail 1929
  • Murder 1930
  • Rich and Strange 1931
All with a StudioCanal logo. Probably an indication that some more early Hitchcock is coming.

The pasolini box set is OOP it seems. Are these sets normally reprinted by BFI?

Are the extras in this set the same as the individual releases?

As far as I can tell they're the same discs, however the booklet in the set only contains a short presentation of the movies and credits, whereas individual releases each have their dedicated booklet with essays, reviews and interviews

I just received Orphée from Amazon, and no slip case. Not a big deal, but a bit annoying.

It does not look anything like this...

Here!

The artwork is identical, as far as I can see.

Do we know if this was meant to come with a slipcover? The BFI don't usually bother with them. I've the best part of 100 BFI discs, usually pre-ordered, and the only one I can think of coming with a slip was Around the World with Orson Welles.

Why would it come with a slipcover? La Belle et la Bête didn’t, only the recent Woodfall titles have I’ve noticed.

With the news that HMV have been saved, I’m hoping they will stock this soon either I store or online so I can grab it!

OK, maybe I just had wrong expectations. The first picture I posted looks like a slip case, to me at least.

That’s just how BFI do their front-on pack shots. Doesn’t usually mean there’s a slipcover - I can see why you’d think that though, with Eureka and Arrow doing that.

Default BFI Booklets

It would appear that BFI are succumbing to the trend of issuing booklets on the first pressing of new releases only according to the latest press release. I can understand the need to maximise their revenue this way but its still an annoyance.

And here it is, new releases for Spring:

https://www.bfi.org.uk/news-opinion/...es-spring-2019

Definitely down for The Caretaker and Room at the Top. And evidently the Early Kore-eda set has been delayed.

And the bit at the bottom as noted above:

Quote:
Beginning with these spring titles, our new releases will only include a booklet in the first pressing

Really hate this trend, understandably cuts costs but when you pay a premium price you expect a premium release without something missing. Essentially means those who can't pre-order everything they want will have to make do. I hope Eureka don't follow this route.
