It'll be a Flipside release containing two shorter (45-60 mins) features, apparently along folk horror lines. I can't wait to find out what it is. Hopefully there will be some interesting extras on there too.

I've been buzzed about this release since you first mentioned it, and was also (temporarily) dismayed to see it apparently omitted from the Autumn schedule! I love both the Flipside range and Folk Horror, so can't really go wrong with this release, and I have an idea what one of the titles may be. It's no more than a guess, mind.

In for all of these, the BFI DVD had these:
Quote:
"Les Demoiselles ont eu 25 ans" documentary (63:26)
Extracts from the Guardian Interview in which Catherine Deneuve talks about working with Jacques Demy and his influence on her career (7:03)
Audio extracts from Gene Kelly's Guardian Lecture on the Hollywood Musical (19:29)
Didn’t get around to the Demy on FilmStruck so very happy about this. Wonder if they can get some of the archive extras from the Criterion release.

Quote:
"Cinema" French TV show interview from 1966 featuring director Jacques Demy and composer Michel Legrand discussing the music for the film
Episode from "Behind the Screen," a 1966 series about the making of the film
Some of their MGM licenses like The Children’s Hour haven’t really had extras so hope they can produce a new commentary or interviews for Hair.

The UK never got both cuts or the extras for Yentl from what I’m aware so hopefully we’ll see them carried over.

Forgot to mention Maurice has dropped to £9.99 instore at HMV for anyone interested. I nabbed a copy as I was curious to see this one. I noticed it's the same price in Fopp too (well, £10 anyway).

I still have a vhs autographed by the lead actors, as well as a DVD and a Blu. It's a lovely film, very touching and beautifully made.

Whenever Amazon do a price drop wrongly or rightly I think they might be dropping it because someone else has. So I checked base and it's £16.79. Coincidence? I think not.

Will order from Base even though I've spent far too much money with them for BFI titles the last few weeks.

It is my most anticipated release for 2019!

35.99 on Amazon is a really good price for this set!

An here we are. Vic Pratt interviewed by DVDCompare reveals the forthcoming Flipside title:

Quote:
We have a Flipside Halloween special out later this year! A mondo-esque double-bill of Secret Rites" and "Legend of the Witches"; two special, sensational feature-length early 70s witchcraft documentaries made with Alex ‘King of the Witches’ Sanders. "Legend..." is newly remastered from a preservation element and "Secret Rites" has never before been released on VHS or DVD – or so we think. Expect a load of extras too, of course.
Looking forward to seeing what extras they come up with. Here's an idea for a couple, from the BBC archives:

- The Power of the Witch: Real or Imaginary? (documentary from 1971, also featuring Sanders)

- The Witches of Pendle (1977 - A dramatisation of a real witch-trial that took place in Lancashire in 1612)

Pretty sure both survive (the former is on YouTube). Unfortunately the BFI don't appear to hold materials for either so I expect both are very unlikely.

Sure this, well certainly the first title, falls into the folk horror realm but count me slightly disappointed.

Legend of the Witches is like most mondos intermittently dull, dated and obviously staged, plus the involvement of a certain Alexander Sanders automatically casts a dubious light on what it may present as historical fact. I remember it often being lovely to look at and deliberately psychedelic in execution (with many scenes lifted wholesale by Paul Wright for his fascinating BFI Arcadia project) but I'm not sure I'd recommend Legend of the Witches as either entertainment or education.

Secret Rites may prove more interesting but again the presence of Mr.Sanders is discouraging.

I will admit there is potential for both plenty of quality bonus material plus it'll no doubt have great artwork and spotless transfers but it's hard for me to get excited about this release.

I guess we were both wrong then!

Sounds like an interesting release
