Been waiting years for to see this but think I’ll now wait and pick it up in a sale. Sounds like the print is the same as/similar to the Twilight Time release.

And, on top of that, the Askwith interview was already on the BFI release of Abel Ferrara's "Pasolini".
So, if one has the older "Trilogy" set, and the "Pasolini" release, then you have all of the features here, already. |

I saw The Innocents got a new dvd release in April which i was thinking about getting as the older Blu Ray is difficult to get at a decent price now. Will it be issued again on blu ray anyone know?

It's currently in the BOGOF offer in HMV. I've seen several copies in the stores I've been in recently.

Apologies if this has already been answered. I picked up the recent Trilogy Of Life Blu-ray, but wasn't sure what the differences are between previous releases. I've left it sealed because if it's just a standard reissue I'll take it back to HMV. If there are new transfers/extras, then I'll keep it

IIRC, the BFI specifically stated these transfers are "new to the UK", not just "new". That's also the case for Salo.
I don't think there was any other reason for this set to happen than just upgrading the transfers and putting the movies back in print in the UK in HD. |

Judging by the online availability, it does actually look like the BFI BD for The Innocents is now Out of Print. I'm just wondering if BFI are going to license the UK Blu-ray rights for a Criterion release, perhaps retaining the DVD rights (as you say the DVD release is still quite recent).
If you definitely want that BFI release though, getting it in the current BOGOF will probably be the last chance to get it at a decent price. |

The 5-Disc Blu-ray Set 5 Pioneers of African-Amercian Cinema is currently £16.09 at base.com meaning you save £53.90 from the retail price.
The dual format French Cancan is £4.99 and there's also quite a few titles for £7.59 at the moment. |

Criterion would have liked to have included it, but it wasn't available to them via any of their potential licensors, whereas it's always been part of the BFI's preservation copy (and I might add was certainly shown at the University of Warwick's Italian Dept. in 1976 when the police turned up mob-handed to confiscate it and proceeded to chase poor Don Ranvaud, who'd arranged the screening, half-way around the Midlands with cans of film rattling around in the boot of his car and a handsome young art history student acting as his lookout......) |

It's not traditional horror, but Jean Cocteau's Orphee / Orpheus is a strange and surreal film that's not out of place for a Halloween theme viewing.
Loosely adapted from the Greek legend, here Orpheus (Jean Marais) is a disgruntled poet (of the New Wave, perhaps) whisked away from the scene of a mishap by a decidedly strange woman (who might be Death herself) and the people that obey her orders. Abandoned in an equally mysterious fashion, Orpheus is chauffeured home where wife Eurydice has been crying hell over his disappearance. Shortly after Eurydice is taken away and Orpheus learns that he must go after into an other-world dimension through a mirror portal to get her back. Cocteau's film embraces surrealism for both its content and style, creating a dream-like ambience for large stretches. The effects used are simple but ingenious, and the off-kilter tone of the film makes it easier to be immersed in its contrivances. Nicholas Hayer's cinematography has a luminous quality and Georges Auric's music enhances the fantasy element of the film. The BFI blu-ray carries a handsome transfer of the film with a clear LPCM 2.0 French soundtrack (and English subtitles). There are also several extras and a booklet included. ![]() |
