It includes BOTH the theatrical version (85:22) and the alternate edit (61:52).

In the run up to it's release the BFI replied to social media inquires stating that yes their version of Sebastiane would include the original cut in academy ration version (ie truly uncut). To be frank unless the materials were unusable or lost I can't see why they wouldn't include this version.

Just stumbled across this: Flipside at 40 event.

G.G. Passion is on the Stranger In the House release, don't recognize The Lake (1978) but Dreamhouse is one of the segments of Screamtime (1983) The framing device is very daft but the portmanteau segments themselves are fun and in a couple of cases quite creepy. As such I wonder if this is signalling a future Flipside release?

The Lake [1978] would make a fine extra to Vickers' own feature The Appointment [1981], which is long overdue a DVD / Blu-ray release.

Fingers crossed.

Very witty though if you can't tell the difference by now you need to get out more! :-)

I'd love to think this the case but I asked Ben Stoddart about the prospect of a 'Short Sharp Shocks' Flipside set (citing the likes The Lake and Panic as potential inclusions) and he replied thus:

So he didn't rule it out entirely but they've been screening some of these horror shorts under the Flipside banner for many years now. As for Screamtime, he again cited rights, but it is with MGM and according to the Kino Insider is with a label in the US (probably Scream Factory, though they're dragging their feet it seems).

It actually went (slightly) up. It's been at £8.89 for months.

Was surprised to spot this presumed (by me anyway) canceled release at HMV Stockport earlier today. In a scanavo type case no less so presumably despite what the database states a recent release.

Not exactly, I picked it up early last year and it has a scanavo case.

“Back in stock soon”

Hopefully they’re able to fulfil as they’ve taken money up-front.
Just received a second “We’re sorry for the delay with your order. We are continuing to try and source this item for you and will email again as soon as we have an update.”

Not looking likely now.

Just watched Yentl and while the extras are terrific the movie has a yellow bias i don’t much like. Pity.

Anthony Asquith’s Underground is a delightful little silent film that genre hops quite a bit in its 90 odd minute runtime, especially from romantic drama to tense thriller, but it does so organically and each section is made with pretty accomplished filmmaking that is hard to resist even though it all gets fairly ludicrous by the end.

Asquith combines a whole range of visual techniques from location shooting, chiaroscuro german expressionist lighting, extreme close ups and, towards the end, a gobsmacking long tracking shot whose oddly angled trajectory matches the psychologically damaged state of the particular character the camera is tracking at the time.

Also parts of this felt very Hitchcockian to me and, given the 1928 year of release, I wonder who influenced who.

BFI’s blu is from a 2k restoration from a combination of the OCN and a French print and although the resulting transfer has plenty of visible damage throughout, it looks pretty excellent on the whole considering this was almost a film lost to time. Neil Brand’s orchestral score is excellent and matches the images quite well.

That always had a heavy brown/earth tones/sepia bias on the original 35mm prints (when I was in college I worked in a cinema that played it for a month or more, and there were lots of audience comments/complaints about the 'odd' colour), so that may not be far off what Streisand intended.

As I've said before this is probably my favourite non-fantastical or documentary silent film. Highly recommended.
