Man, I can't believe that Criterion's Seven Samurai Blu-ray is 10 years old. May be my favorite film and I think I've watched the disc once.

Lee Kline seemed to have Seven Samurai on his mind during his interview on the Team Deakins podcast and I wonder if they are planning on redoing it in 4K.

I have contemplated getting a Region A player just to play that disc many a times!

It just appeared as a pop-up as soon as I went on the site. It's a unique code.

Try opening the website in an incognito window- that's how I got the pop-up window asking subscription/account activation..

Another method would be closing your current browsing session and clear the history/cache , and then open the website on a new session.

I guess you may want to disable any adblockers, too.

That possibility is what keeps me from buying any Kurosawa film on blu-ray.

I'd say Kurosawa's films are still worth buying in the meantime. If/when the Criterion set comes out, other blu-rays of his films will still hold value and you could sell them on or gift them to a Kurosawa newbie

Plenty of DVDs that need to be upgraded like the Early Kurosawa set, Kurosawa Classic Collection, The Quiet Duel, Dersu Uzala, Madadayo.

Surprisingly, the only Kurosawas I own are Scandal, Rashomon and Dreams. But then, as this thread as suggested, the Kurosawa releases in the UK could be better. Kagemusha got quite a lot of extras on the Fox Cinema Reserve DVD, but only had the international version. Still waiting for StudioCanal to put out Ran on 4K UHD, but with the BFIs only Rashomon (commentary and new retrospective documentary) and Seven Samurai (The Art of Akira Kurosawa) carried significant extras, with only commentaries and a brief George Lucas interview on the other discs - no sign of the It is Wonderful to Create series. Although, it’s worth pointing out the Optimum DVD of Rashomon contains both the original short stories, a Stephen Prince book chapter and the 70 minute making of that was featured on the Criterion release. I don’t know of any other significant UK releases - or even Region 2/B releases with English subtitles.

Anyone who has Kurosawa films on Criterion BDs shouldn't be worried too much about it. I had nine or so Criterion Bergmans but bought the big box set anyway. A short time after that I started listing them on the 'Bay and sold them all for a gross of around £120 - practically what I paid for the set from B&N

The Otto Preminger Noir set arrived yesterday from the rarewaves deal - great little set, I love how thin the cases are too - I wish more boxsets were like this.

Just a little odd having the stapled booklet (only a page or two per film), oversized in terms of dimensions but presented within the box. If they did this set today I wonder if they would just do 3 discs within a single keepcase.

Rossellini/Bergman is much nicer as a digipack with a 40 page booklet full of lengthy essays (just arrived)

Only buying it for Fallen Angel, having the TT releases of the other two, I'm delighted I don't have to keep all three and that Fallen Angel won't take up much shelf space in my bursting at the seams noir shelf.

On the discussion of shelves, I have to put up some new ones this weekend and rearrange stuff, because I'm running out of room to put stuff and I have box sets galore on the way.

You jammy b***ards and your shelves.

At this point a good 75% of mine are either in boxes, in storage, or on the floor!

I'm on to stackable plastic crates now any prospect of moving to somewhere a bit larger with more wall space for shelves has been set back a year while I'm shielding, but with the extra time on my hands has come the inevitable "I can do that later" inertia and I keep on putting off properly reorganising the shelves and cardboard boxes. It's all meticulously planned but I'm just rearranging the odd deckchair because... later.

I say a good 10-15% of mine are in drawer carts and even some of them on the shelves are a mess of organization for example some by genre, some by label, some by French language films but while it may seem like madness I know where most of them are.

Same. I’ve got a couple of weeks off soon. Will I use any of that time to tidy/rearrange the collection...probably not .
