Just found out they will release Pocketful of Miracles with Bette Davis, Glenn Ford, Hope Lange and Ann-Margret.
I just upgraded from DVD to the German bluray because I feel like watching this soon and don't want to wait until September but the front artwork looks very nice.

Anyone who gets Sight and Sound delivered, how long does it usually take? I subscribed on August 1st and just wondering how long after the issue is released before they are sent out.

It can take a while. I think it was 6 or 7 weeks for my first issue to arrive. I had to buy that months issue in store, due to the way they do it too.

Thanks. Hopefully it won't be that long!

Does anyone know if the ‘Ghost Stories For Christmas’ DVD set has ever been mentioned for a Blu-ray upgrade? Would be amazing to own in HD. I suspect t the elements wouldn’t translate too well, maybe that’s the reason it hasn’t had a release on the format?

It's been requested for years. We're reasonably sure the 16mm negatives are located in the BBC archives, but the BFI has downplayed the prospect of a Blu-ray upgrade by drawing attention to the limited materials in their own archives, which is puzzling.

I think many of us would love to see a Blu-ray upgrade of this set, and I've no doubt it would sell very well. I'd be happy with Whistle and the 70s installments, but if they wanted to go up to Mark Gatiss' current attempts, that's fine too (since these are ongoing, that may be trickier). It's the 50th anniversary of the strand proper next year, so it would be the perfect opportunity.

It’s frustrating. Owning ‘The Woman In Black‘ tv adaptation on Blu-ray has got me craving these films/shows in HD!

Me too. Cancelled my £13.99 order at Base and went with Rarewaves instead. Not the best packaging, mind, but last few box sets from them arrived intact.

Annoyingly Sunday Bloody Sunday is even cheaper from them now (I paid just over £9 some weeks back) and there are loads of other bargains if you type 'BFIB' into the search bar (e.g. Battleship Potemkin for under £6).

Dang wish I had known that before I made my order with the discount code. I previously kept checking Sunday Bloody Sunday with a bunch of other BFI's and they were always £9 something. Didn't check today did I?! edit:it's only saving 73p but every little helps.

The Carl Theodor Dreyer Collection (£25.16)
The Roberto Rossellini Ingrid Bergman Collection (7.99)

10th October 2020 marks 40 years since the BBC broadcast of Boys from the blackstuff. Would love a blu release.

15th Jan 2021 would be 25 years since broadcast of Our Friends in the North would love to see that get a blu release too.

Very happy about Equus since I missed out on the TT release, though it's the Play for Today set I'm really excited for. Hopefully it's still coming later this year.
According to The Digital Fix, After Life (1998, Hirokazu Koreeda) was set for August 17th, but it's still marked for pre-order on BFI Shop. It is currently available streaming on the BFI Player - the other 4 titles above are not available on the BFI Player. Pocketful of Miracles and After the Fox are both on Amazon Prime, in very high quality.

Personally, I'm most interested in the September 21st release of
Mademoiselle (1966, Tony Richardson). Jeanne Moreau stars a supressed and sociopathic school teacher, whose disturbing desires challenge the delicate equilibrium of her local community.
  • Newly recorded audio commentary by Adrian Martin
  • Doll’s Eye (1982, 75 mins): rare and never before released BFI Production Board film directed by Jan Worth that examines contradictory male attitudes to women as they affect a researcher, a prostitute and a switchboard operator
  • Image gallery
  • Original theatrical trailer
  • Interview with Keith Skinner (2020): the actor and historian discusses his work on Mademoiselle
  • ***FIRST PRESSING ONLY*** illustrated booklet with new writing on the film by Jon Dear and Neil Young. Also includes writing on Jean Genet by Jane Giles and an essay by Jan Worth on Doll’s Eye
DVD/Blu-ray Dual Format £14.99
