Anyone know if the Kore-eda Boxset has a limited number of units? Keep punting it to the back of my wishlist, and don't want to miss out on it entirely.

None for Salo either (also amazon). Good thing I managed to get the 2008 one which I believe is just under 50 pages?

How long is the Sam Rohdie introduction? I could live without the reviews and BBFC correspondence.

Is it the same as the Criterion essay?

5 pages, although 2 of those are only half pages.

Any opinions on the Alice DVD?

It's pretty dissapointing that they didn't do a Blu-ray, especially since it seems to have been in their plans, going by the listing still found here.

I seem to recall the BFI themselves stating that the materials supplied by Warner Bros. were old transfers made for TV which would look dreadful on BD, and that efforts on the BFI's part to acquire better were effectively rebuffed. That said, the DVD is reasonably watchable, if rather rough and coarse-looking, especially the colour palette (which however may only reflect accurately the original look of it in cinemas: I never saw it in one, so don't know either way).

Tempted to get the new Trilogy of Life set from HMV in the sale but I already have the 6 film Pasolini set so it'd only be for the slightly improved transfers and the one new extra, plus whatever is new in the booklet. Has anyone else double dipped? If there were more supplements from the Criterion release included I'd be more easily swayed.

I was always hoping that Criterion could get this and Who's That Knocking at My Door. We also still need After Hours & Bringing Out the Dead on BD.

I’m a bit late to the party, but luckily I was able to take advantage of the HMV sale and I bought Seven Samurai and the Takeshi Kitano Collection. The latter is probably one of the best BFI releases!

I think After Hours is supposedly coming from Criterion at some point, and being a Warner Bros title that means it's likely to get a UK port!

I reckon the early Scorsese films could get a Warner Archive release, if not Criterion.

The (bootleg) release from Spanish is perfectly serviceable while we wait for an official release.

I noticed yesterday that Bringing Out the Dead is on Star/Disney+.

Has anyone here recently received a copy of How I Won the War and, if so, did it come with a booklet? Basically, has it sold out it's first pressing?

Got my copy at the end of November last year from HMV and it still had the booklet.

Thanks Modman! I'll take a chance and order it then. No biggie if it doesn't have it!

I bought it from the HMV BFI promotion back in December and it came with no booklet.

Very embarrassingly, because all the other discs I bought came with booklets, I didn't even think of the limited edition factor and contacted the BFI to see if I could get a replacement for my "missing" book. Ben Stoddart replied and was able to sort me one out (he seems like a great guy), but explained very clearly about the limited availability of booklets now and how items in special offers and promotions had a high likelihood of being sans booklet. I felt a little bit like I'd been told off, but also like I deserved it - I should have known better!

If it gets people to buy titles on release more I don’t think being told off is a bad thing! He’s to the point. I’m actually thinking maybe I should buy some titles on release. Definitely Jungle Fever as I’m collecting Lee’s films, but also with cinemas closed it would make sense to get some 2020 films, like Mogul Mowgli, County Lines, Lynn + Lucy. Also a 2019 one with Bait not sure if there’s others.

Sad to see BFI go down the Arrow route rather than Indicator one with the ambiguous booklets with first pressing only policy, guess it's probably a good sales tactic and cost cutter.
