Saw the second Play for Today volume boxset and Radio On in my local branch of HMV today. I knew upcoming new title Maeve wouldn't be on the shelves today, as I saw (first) on DVD Beaver this past weekend that the release date had been pushed back a week.

Is there any chance of Ozu’s “End of Summer” being released by BFI?

Last year, a French Blu-ray was released by Carlotta, which based on the screengrabs (included in the review here) looks very good (and a night-and-day difference with the DVD ), but which was, of course, not English friendly...

Apparently both Salaam Bombay! and Piccadilly will come in standard Amaray-style clear cases rather than Scanavo ones, but both will be a one-off with all other future titles (and reissues) being in Scanavo packaging. I imagine both were originally scheduled before the change of packaging and it's not possible to change them to Scanavo (and full-sized artwork). I guess we'll all have to start getting used to our BFI, Eureka and even Arrow releases occasionally coming in different cases!

The scanavo seems to have a header ridge and the plastic tabs seem to be lower down to prevent this problem

Even though I've still got titles to get which have been out for a long time (including Scandal), I decided to get a new release in my local HMV branch this week. Decided to get the new title Maeve.

Ben Stoddart explained the reason in the BFI Facebook Group:

Hi all, just a quick heads up that due to a materials issue that we have no control over, our releases of Piccadilly and Salaam Bombay won't be packed in the full sleeve case that we moved over to a while back.
They will instead be packaged in clear standard Blu-ray cases. It's not my preference and no other titles should be affected (past or future), but we can't move them back months in order to use our preferred case. Thanks and best.

Yeah I saw that too. Good of him to clarify. Sounds like a slight annoyance but oh well, I'm luckily not that fussed, even if the specially-commissioned Piccadilly artwork would probably benefit from the Scanavo sized artwork.

I pre-ordered this for £15.99 as soon as it was up on Amazon, i only do that for BFI titles now because the booklets are limited runs (and it has been a holy grail on blu for years for me) after years of being guaranteed one while they were in print.Even more annoying it is available to deliver to my address unlike a lot of titles i've been interested in today.
Oh well you win some, lose some. As you say a great price for a new title.

Yep I went for it, especially since I saw the old DVD edition in Oxfam the other day for £8.99!? Looks like my kind of film - the style, the era, the music.

I need to sell my copy of the DVD I bought from CEX but I’m not sure what price to set for it. Used eBay copies are £12-15, so they were probably pricing against that. However, have a look on Oxfam’s website and they have the most ludicrous prices for BDs/DVDs and I would be surprised if they shift.

I ordered it alongside Youth of the Beast
