La Mif is an interesting film; not without its flaws, but compelling and full of anger - it made me realise what a hugely difficult job those who look after children in care have. Feels like a good candidate for BFIs typically thorough treatment.

My heart skipped a beat for a second when I misread: Dennis Hopper interviewed by Tom Waits (1984, 97 mins)...

Now that would have been something !

Must be another Archers fan in town as someone before had ordered a copy instore, as I did today.
HMV texted me to say there's going to be a delay. Should I be worried and/or order a copy from their eBay store? I really don't want to miss out on this!

You get the regular Scanovo, reversible art, with 32 page book but then the storybook Pressberger wrote is included full size, not shrunk down a la Network, and all in a sturdy (but stil card) box. Lovely stuff.

Network didn't shrink the unproduced Tony Hancock screenplay thing that Galton & Simpson wrote that they included in their release of The Rebel.

An appropriately stacked release for one of the best Canadian films of the 80’s

Yes they did: it's tiny and the text wasn't reformatted or resized when it was reduced from 8.5 by 11 inches to the size of a pocket-size box of Swan Vestas matches, so for many it's unreadable without a powerful magnifying glass. Their pressbook reproductions, mostly reduced from even larger originals (sometimes twice as large) to similar size, can't even be read with magnification.

It’s also limited to the first pressing(s):
“Initial copies of The Rebel include a limited edition booklet containing the script for The Day Off - which would have been Galton and Simpson's second film for Hancock had he not turned it down..”

To be honest, if Id known how small and virtually unreadable it was I wouldn't have preordered but waited for a standard edition that took up less shelf room, especially since I ended up downloading the script from the net because it was easier to read.

So would I - it ships in this ridiculously thick Amaray case and because the booklet is so heavy, in shipping it snapped the little blue tabs off the case where it’s held in. I can’t put the disc in a smaller case because the artwork won’t fit, and getting a replacement case would probably be stupidly expensive. I asked Network if they would send me (or sell me) a replacement case, they offered me an expires-in-a-month not-valid-on-preorders 10% discount voucher instead. Gee, thanks….

Has anyone bought a copy of The Rebel recently…does it come in a standard thickness case now?

I haven't got a copy of The Rebel yet, & regret not doing so, but I recall it being in a book thing that was included outside the case at the back as it was a bit too large to fit in.

No, it was only a matchbox size script inside the kind of thick case used for multi-disc sets like the UK version of the Wolfman or Lethal Weapon collections. Some people were expecting either a One of Our Aircraft sized book or a separate script not included in the case as per the Hammer House of Horror pre-orders. What they got was something many of Network's older demographic could't even read.

Blind bought Aleem Khan's After Love and was wowed by it.

I've seen films dealing with this sort of subject matter before but not in this wholly original and fresh manner. Joanna Scanlan gives her career best performance. Highly, highly recommended.

My Teacher once told me that there was no such thing as a silly question so here goes:

Is there any reason why Targets has been pushed back to June 2022 because I really want to see that and it prompts me to ask if the BFI have an MGM deal.
