I would really recommend the Sherwood BDP 5004 Multi Region player. I actually bought it specifically for some of my BFI blus, and its so nice to be able to play everything and not even worry about it. (Even 1080i 50Hz stuff)

I pre-ordered all three now as they are currently all £13.99 at Amazon, and BFI BDs usually go up to either £15.99 or even £17.99 near release.

So anybody know whats going on with Amazon UK and the BFI blus as of late. I had the latest 3 flipside titles pre-ordered from Amazon UK, and they have still yet to ship. I checked out the item listings, and Permissive is in stock, but That Kind Of Girl shows a delay of 7-13 days still, and this is after 3 weeks of being out already. Privilege is a whole other story as well, as its not even showing as available to order through Amazon anymore (there is a sign-up to be notified thing). Any ideas about these?

Also, I just got an email update on my Amazon UK order of The Leopard being delayed a couple of weeks as well. (I am assuming this is to fix the video glitch on the first pressing, but not sure) This is just kind of becoming a disturbing trend as all four of the latest releases (just from BFI) have now been delayed when ordering through Amazon UK. Anyone else experiencing this same kind of trouble, or is it just me and my bad luck...?

Rich,

Michael is probably the only person that could provide some definitive answers for you. That said, this is what I know:

The Amazon.UK listings for quite a few BFI titles were not updated. Hence, the reason why Privilege just got pulled off. As far as I know, the film should be arriving sometime in June.

Permissive is in stock.

That Kind of Girl was in stock this morning. And the disc did come out on the 25 of January.

The Leopard is also listed with an incorrect date - February 15th - hence the reason why you are seeing the 2-3 weeks shipping note. I believe the approximate new date for the corrected version is: May.

To sum it all up, there are two BFI titles that you should be getting -- Permissive and That Kind of Girl. You would have to wait for The Leopard and Privilege, as it will be awhile until they appear in the distro system.

Pro-B

Thanks for the info. I just wish Amazon would get that updated because they're holding up my entire order (+ Une Femme Mariee) just for Privilege. I have The Leopard on a seperate order so no worries there

Thanks for the info, it seems pretty affordable too. Then I'd be able to get the Pasolini Blus

Just FYI, Criterion is hoping to bring these out in Region A, if that is where you are.

Hey MichaelB,

I understand the desire not to remaster the shorts for HD at this time, but why couldn't they have been put on the Blu-ray (in standard definition) as well?

Now I'd have to switch back and forth...

I think all BFI Blu-rays have been exclusively 1080p (feature and extras) to date, presumably to maximise compatibility with any given player.

Incidentally, I can now confirm that all the BFI's Ozu discs will be Region B (or Region 2 for the DVDs) - which I imagine won't come as a surprise to anyone familiar with Japanese rightsholders. They've been sticklers for region-coding ever since the dawn of the format, as those who remember the majority of the exceptions back in the days when Criterion discs were mostly region-free will confirm.
I guess it's just my laziness as not wanting to switch discs to watch the included film...but I can see how this philosophy makes sense.

By the way, will the DVDs be PAL or NTSC, and if they're PAL, will they have been pitch-corrected for music and/or dialogue?

Anybody know anything about this?

http://www.moviemail-online.co.uk/sc....pl?offer=1894

I'm wanting to get into BFI blu's and that seemed like a great deal, but when I added 15 in my cart, nothing happened.

jacob, I think that deal may be over or something. If you click back on the 'Special Offers' link there's not a link for the BFI blu-ray deal. Just my thought. I remember when it first popped up, but I can't remember when. I pick all my BFI blu-rays up from Amazon UK. Most of the main line as been priced around £8.98 to £11.98 in the past before VAT removal and the Flipside titles, as well.

Those are the prices I was taking about. Once you take out VAT, it really gets cheaper yet. It seems that most are 11.99 now, with the flipsides at 8.99 or so, but once you take VAT out, its only just over 10 pounds each.

Damn you, rich_adamson!

Just ordered Salo, Gazwrx, Magick Lantern Cycle, Anti-Clock, Other Side of the Underneath, and the Bed Sitting Room. Averaged out to about $18 each, not bad.

I mainly chose the Bed Sitting Room because it was directed by Lester, who did the Beatles movies.

Well, I just opened another door to poorville.
