Does anyone know what’s up with the aspect ratio change? The film has always been 1.85 AFAIK. Was it 1.66 theatrically? Both this and the Criterion transfer were supervised by Mike Leigh so the discrepancy is quite puzzling.

I have thought to myself it did seem awfully like a lot of the shots were framed for a 1.66:1 presentation.

So happy about The Proposition 4k it's long been a favourite so I can finally retire my Blu although i may Frankenstein the CD somehow.

Oh and Play for Today Volume Three in a different month spaces out expenses nicely.

I just bought Kore-eda'a Of Flesh and Blood collection. Meant to do it earlier but was stuck in India for several months due to Covid related travel limitations.

Of the 4 films in the set, only Still Walking is doubled-up as I have the American Criterion disc for that film. But even then, I can only watch US Criterion (and other A-locked films) on the main lounge TV whereas the BFI one can be played in any room.

I love that set immensely, I'm even thinking about getting a second copy for backup, although I'm hoping that we won't have to wait too long for eventual UHD releases of Kore-eda's films.

Does anyone know if The Magician and Smiles of a Summer Night in vol.2 are from newer 2k restorations or the same ones used by Criterion?

Wait. Wild Strawberries has never had a standalone blu-ray release in the UK before this...at all?

Classic, last time I went to Fopp Covent Garden there were literally no good promotions. Just stuff you could get for the same price in HMV.

Hope they do this offer at HMV soon though, just noticed they have lots of recent titles at £6 in the Fopp offer - The River, Maeve, After Love, Piccadilly, Salaam Bombay, Friendship's Death, County Lines, Lynn + Lucy...even The Pawnbroker (slightly regret pre-ordering that now, if they're going to be half the price so soon). I'd definitely get at least a few of those (especially The River)!

Just checked my local HMV - no BFI deals. It's frustrating as hell knowing these bargains are available but I'm 100 miles away. Seems unlikely they'll do it given the Criterion deal is still on.

Gonna have to check the listings for The Light and Arts Picturehouse so I can do a trip away where I stock up on BFI Blu-rays

Anyone know how long the Fopp sale lasts?? La Haine for six quid is insane, would easily make a trip in for that alone. Is it line-wide or select titles (specifically, any of the Cassavetes stuff included?)
