I think the bottom bit is pretty much restating the same info. Like it says "Robin Redbreast [...] has a standalone release" and if you look at it in the table it also says "DVD release by the BFI". It says "& others" meaning "others have had standalone releases" and there are some that fit this category in the table - e.g., "The Fishing Party".

Any difference at all between the 2011 release of The Great White Silence and the 2022 re-release?

Or is the re-release just timed to coincide with the 2022 release of South & The Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration on Film?

And is The Epic of Everest from 2014 getting a re-release too?

Only difference is that the short films that were on SD DVD for the 2011 edition are now in HD, one featurette has been dropped and a panel discussion was added.

See the comparison on dvdcompare:https://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=33275

And their review of the new edition:https://dvdcompare.net/review.php?rid=6949

Hello! apologies for this being quite late, however to answer your question, most likely it won't get a BFI counterpart. However, like the Kino Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers releases of Alice Guy Blache Vol. 1: The Gaumont Years, Alice Guy Blache Vol. 2: The Solax Years, as well as The Intrigue: The Films of Julia Crawford Ivers, Cinema's First Nasty Women will be a Region Free Release! So if you're Region B locked, you're all good to go.

Also, as a side note, despite the Kino and BFI Releases of Pioneers of African-American Cinema being essentially the same release with slight technical differences, BFI's release of Early Women Filmmakers 1911-1940 is very different from Kino's Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers Box Set. However, despite Kino's Box Set is Region A locked, I say the Box Set is absolutely worth getting if you love Silent Cinema.

Thank you very much, I didn't know those Kino presentations were so different and just assumed both publishers followed a similar release schedule, I think I will try to get my hands on them as well as the upcoming Nasty Women set if I can

They posted this on FB, they've clearly put the effort in despite no film materials. When I queried they confirm an upscale to 1080p24, which hadn't been specifically mentioned in any of the PR.

Quote:
Despite being shot on 35mm and shown at several film festivals, the original film materials for The Appointment slipped into obscurity – quite a common occurrence when a film is not made by a major film studio or broadcaster and isn’t fortunate enough to have a theatrical release.
After several years of research and hunting through film archives, storage facilities and collections, even using the director’s diary as a reference point, no film materials came to light, and the best material we have been able to locate is a one-inch broadcast tape from a long-forgotten television screening. This has been used as the source for this release.
Presented on the forthcoming Blu-ray in its original aspect ratio, with original mono audio from the one-inch tape, much effort has been made to give this rare film the best presentation possible and at the same time stay true to the original source materials. Many hours have been spent addressing issues of video and chroma noise, as well as negative and positive density film damage, but it must be emphasised that this is the best source element currently known to exist for this film. We are very thankful to director Lindsey Vickers (among others) for giving us his blessing to release the film and for all of his involvement.

A perfect fit for Arrow, I’d have thought. I’ve dropped hints over the years to them but to no avail.

Yes. Interesting to have something on Woodfall which I knew little about but mostly it's fantastic to get hold of a clutch of Tony Richardson films on blu-ray. I also have Mademoiselle (BFI), The Charge of the Light Brigade (Filmedia), Ned Kelly (Olive Films), A Delicate Balance (Kino Lorber) and The Border (Indicator). Without realising I seemed to have picked up most of his filmography on blu. Just two others I now want to pick up; Blue Sky (BFI) and The Hotel New Hampshire (Kino Lorber). He's overlooked/under appreciated maybe?

BLUE SKY is £7 on AMZ at the moment. Don’t hang around on HNH though, it’s already going for >£30 and it’s only going to go up from here. Although there’s a DE digibook coming next month…

Is it unrealistic to ask if there is a chance of a third volume of Short Sharp Shocks? Have the first two volumes sold well for the BFI?

FDA has The Draughtsman’s Contract listed for a November rerelease, same day as Black Panther and Living (Ikiru remake).

Thanks. I ordered Blue Sky for £7 right after posting about it. It arrived with booklet too so very happy. Must get round to watching Hotel New Hampshire (I have a DVD). It might renew my appetite for hunting down the Kino Lorber blu.

aiming to pick up Pickpocket tomorrow, absolutely love Bresson, and hopefully BFI put more of his films out here.
