A Woman Under the Influence Blu-ray PRE-ORDER

NEWS
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=9255

Quote:
The British Film Institute has officially announced and detailed its upcoming Dual Format Edition of John Cassavetes' A Woman Under the Influence (1974), starring Gena Rowlands, Peter Falk and Fred Draper. Street date is September 17th.

Special Features:

Presented in Both High Definition and Standard Definition
Falk on Cassavetes: husbands and wives (DVD only, 15 minutes)
Elaine Kagan's interviewed by Tom Charity (DVD only, 19 minutes)
Original trailer (3 minutes).
Alternative 16mm trailer (3 minutes)
Illustrated booklet featuring interviews and new essays by Tom Charity and Al Ruban

Although Nick (Peter Falk) and Mabel Longhetti (Gena Rowlands) still love each other, a failure to communicate leads to the deterioration of their marriage when the latter suffers a nervous breakdown. The film won two Academy Award nominations for the real life husband and wife team of John Cassavetes (Director) and Gena Rowlands (Actress).

Note: A Woman Under the Influence follows the BFI's releases of Shadows (1959) and Faces (1968) in April. The Killing of a Chinese Bookie (1976) and Opening Night (1977) will be released in Dual Format Editions in Spring 2013.

Rkish - I'm guessing that it's April next year rather than December this year. Smaller labels like MoC, BFI and Arrow don't usually like releasing in December, as they don't stand a chance with the Hollywood blockbusters being released prior to Christmas.

Amazon just makes up dates when they don't have one.

Yeah...VERY early Ozu. He was more of a wild man, in his younger years. "Hen In The Wind" is a great film and so very atypical of what people see of him in his later sound and color period.

Thanks...that would tend to make sense...unless Amazon has no date, as someone else hinted to in an earlier post.

Maybe "Independant" was a bad choice of words. I couldn't think of the name of the company that someone had posted earlier. It was Play.com and they had originally listed it as releasing in December..But I just checked and it now says "Not Released Yet!" Oh well...patience...

NEWS:
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=9290

Quote:

The British Film Institute has revealed that it is planning to release Dual Format Editions of two classic films directed by Jacques Tati: Jour De Fete (1949) and Mon Oncle (1958). Street date for the two releases is October 22.

Jour De Fete

One of Jacques Tati's most famous comedies, and his directorial debut. After observing the high-speed efficiency of the American postal service, the postman (Tati) of a sleepy French town is inspired to add a little zip into his own delivery route. This coincides with the arrival of the summer fair, and chaos ensues.

Special Features:

Presented in both High Definition and Standard Definition (on both Blu-ray and DVD)
Original 1949 colour version, first seen by audiences in 1995. French language
Also includes Tati's alternative 1964 re-edit, which re-works the original 1949 black and white version, adding a new character (the English-speaking painter) and elements of hand painted colour. English language
Three Tati shorts: Soigne ton gauche (1936, 12 mins, b&w)
L'Ecole des facteurs (1947, 15 mins, b&w)
Cours du soir (1967, 28 mins, colour) (DVD only)
Illustrated booklet with films notes and credits

Mon Oncle

Writer, director and star Jacques Tati reprises his character Monsieur Hulot from his 1953 film 'M. Hulot's Holiday'. In 'Mon Oncle', Hulot lives in a small backstreet dwelling which contrasts sharply with his brother's excessively modern, suburban lifestyle. When Hulot goes to work for his brother havoc ensues.

Special Features:

Presented in both High Definition and Standard Definition (on both Blu-ray and DVD)
Original French language version
Also includes the alternative English language version, prepared for the overseas market by Tati himself
Original trailer
Illustrated booklet with films notes and credits with its rarely heard English-language soundtrack

Fantastic news, I thought that Studio Canal had taken the rights to all of the Tati's tho?

They have taken the rights, but that doesn't mean they don't have to wait for the current licence period to expire. BFI/Criterion may have these for quite some time still. In fact, the announcement of these two titles so close to their release date, and the delay of many other BFI releases, probably has a lot to do with them wanting to get these out ASAP before StudioCanal takes them.

The good news is that there are three Tati shorts on Jour De Fete. I don't know how many there are all together, but it's nice to see these being available, especially as there was a separate release for these planned but never materialised

Yes, I noticed that too with great pleasure.

I posted a wee while back hoping the shorts might get a release of their own, but to have them bundled into these primary releases may be even better. I say "may", because I wonder if they'll be like Playtime, where the extras are tucked away in SD on the DVD?

At least one of them is. But who cares, they're there and that makes me very happy

Not Blu-ray admittedly, but The Hut have the Early Kurosawa BFI set for £13.45 if you use the code BHD10 - seems like a good deal since it includes 6 films (does anyone know if it has been cheaper?) Also ordered the recent Airport Blu at a crazy £3.56 using the same code.
