Flipside 10 - 40: Dual format blu-ray/DVD releases in clear cases

Flipside 46: Dual format 4K UHD/blu-ray in scanvaro type case with slipcover

Considering its obscurity I'm a little surprised the BFI went to the expense of authoring and releasing Full Circle on 4K, and equally unsurprised to see Short Sharp Shocks 3 reverting to blu-ray only.
That was indeed my reasoning behind my post. Thanks.

Plus unlike many other Flipside titles I'm sure Full Circle really shines in 4K in a way say The Body Beneath or Mr.Topaze never could. A fact that probably influenced their decision to go with a UHD release.

Re Gregory's Girl I've noticed that last time I checked it seems to be deliberately priced lower than your average boutique UHD release (at HMV and Amazon anyway) If that's the case with future releases I'll definitely be picking up them up on that format.
Also Symptoms was a joint thing with Mondo Macabro.

United Kingdom British Transport Films

According to the BFI Shop listing, 'Life on the Line' will be the fifteenth and final volume in the long-running British Transport Films DVD series. I have made a thread with links to this and all previous editions for any members who are interested: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=364990

Brilliant news. Was just wondering just the other day if we'd seen the last of these often fascinating volumes.

There must be 240 or so different films on these 15 volumes so I've a suspicion the BTF archives have long since been cherry picked so I'm not surprised they claim this'll be the last release. That said the previous volume 14 was in my opinion one of the best.

"Three Films by Ozu" is a strangely generic title which doesn't point to hope of any more being released. "Here's Another Three Films by Ozu"?

They could follow it up with "Four Films by Ozu"

Perhaps these were older, more niche Ozu titles that they decided to bundle together, and the other Ozu titles will be standalone (hopefully things like Tokyo Twilight and Early Spring). Or alternatively, together as "Three Films by Ozu: Volume 2".

Pity BFI didn't do the entire Noriko trilogy in a set 3 years ago instead of just the Tokyo Story.

They could follow its up with the entire Noriko trilogy in a nice 3 disc set with all extras previously released along with some new ones.

Gothic has been moved back 1 week to September 18th but has a delectable selection of extras:

Quote:
Feature commentary by film historian Matthew Melia and Lisi Russell (2018)
The Fall of the Louse of Usher (2002, 83 mins): Ken Russell returns to gothic themes in this legendarily lurid late video work featuring an all-star cast
A Haunted Evening (2023, 35 mins): Stephen Volk, the writer of Gothic, revisits his earliest feature script
The Sound of Shelley with Julian Sands (2017, 18 mins): the actor reflects upon the making of Gothic
Amelia and the Angel (1958, 27 mins): in this charming early Russell short, a young girl, cast as an angel in the school play, is distraught when her brother damages her treasured wings. Pocket money in hand, Amelia traverses London on the hunt for a new pair in time for the play
The Guardian Lecture: Ken Russell in conversation with Derek Malcolm (1987, 87 mins, audio only): the director reflects upon his career, at the time of Gothic
Original trailer
**FIRST PRESSING ONLY** Illustrated booklet featuring new essays by Ellen Cheshire, Jon Dear, and Matthew Melia and full film credits

I recently purchased the 2020 BFI release Mademoiselle to play on my region-modified Sony, but it’s the only region B disc I’ve acquired so far that won’t play. I don’t get an error message or region notice, just a black screen. Is this a known problem with BFI discs or modified players?

Looks like it'll be the third copy of Amelia and the Angel that I own. I currently have DVDs of The Devils (BFI) & a BFI short film collection, that originally came with the Guardian newspaper, which I found in the BHF charity shop I used to volunteer in with the film in it.

I haven’t had an issue with 200+ BFI discs.

That said, some locked discs don’t offer a nicely worded message & display a black screen instead (or stop playing all together). Most region-free players require that you switch regions manually—just to make sure that you’re not expecting it to switch automatically. It varies somewhat but generally requires pressing button/s when the disc tray is open.

I have a problem with my copy of La Peau douce. On my region B Oppo player I get a region B lock message. I have never changed the region from B since I got the disc, so I can't figure out why that would happen. I don't remember ever having a problem with any other region B discs. I was able to watch the disc on my region A Panasonic UHD player by using the "top menu" trick.

I too have a region-modified Sony and your post got me concerned. I hadn't yet unwrapped my BFI blu of Mademoiselle so I checked it and it works fine under the green Region B button on my remote. If your screen is black that's more likely just a faulty disc. If possible check on another player, otherwise return it if you can.

I have a region-modified Sony and my copy of La Peau douce plays fine on the Region B setting if that clarifies anything for you.
