Any ideas as to when? I'm sure I could just order the BFI discs, and Criterion would announce them a month later...

Nope, all we know is that they plan to release it.

Default The Innocents - is it still due on 22 March?

Just asking because I noticed that Amazon.co.uk still have no cover picture for it, which seems a little strange if it's to be released in less than two weeks. Also, the latest issue of 'Sight And Sound' has the usual BFI advertisement but no mention of 'The Innocents'. So has anyone heard whether it's still definitely scheduled to appear on 22 March?

I'd like to know too, as it's in my UK batch coming at the end of March (sorry for only bumping the thread)...

That insinuates that some of the coming Flipside titles will also be Dual Format, which aggravates me since I wanted to collect them on Blu-ray, and I already have three.

My advice, McCrutchy, is just a little less OCD behaviors & patterns. I know it's not the easiest 'cause I was the same way at one point in my life, but I know you can manage.

Are these dual-format releases going to be in Blu-Ray cases? If they go with DVD cases like Fox's rereleases, I won't be happy.

Amazon UK has a photo of the blu-ray release up today. I hope this means it is being released on the 22nd! This is one of the most beautifully filmed horror films thanks to Freddie Franics' deep focus photography.

£17.99 seems kinda pricey compared to BFI's other releases. I'd like to have it, but I dunno if I want to spend that much.

It's slightly less sans VAT, but eventually it will come down. Several BFI BDs have spent long periods costing between £15.98 and £17.59 (VAT included) at Amazon.co.uk, but they all seem to settle at £11.98 after some months.

FWIW the film is worth 18 quid in my opinion.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but when I consider that you can get a film like The Innocents in a superb edition from BFi for less than $30 shipped from Amazon UK seems like a steal compared to buying a lot of the crap that comes out in the US for $25-30 when they are first released. It is actually quite amazing how cheap (comparatively of course) so many of these classics from BFI, Artificial Eye, MoC, and other UK distributors are in comparison to the crazy prices US distribs charge for something like Law Abiding Citizen or Ninja Assassin. When you consider the quality of the films, as well as the packages that BFI put together in terms of supplements and technical quality, they truly seem like bargains. Now like I said, I don't mean to upset anyone with this, but it just seems silly to complain about these prices, when many of us pay that much for much lower quality stateside.

I second this - they are fantastic value.

I love Criterion, but it's frustrating not being able to get DVDs or Blus for less than £20.

I'd consider BFI and MoC as mid-price range, with Criterion and the German Edition Filmmuseum being the top end (the latter does not sell blus).

Second Run and Polish dvds (particuarly of their own films) are seriously cheap - although they are not in blu, the Polish school of documentary sets are amazing value and Second Run, although the PQ and AQ varies from title to title, are brilliant for introducing people to Eastern European cinema for quite low prices.

I didn't say it wasn't worth it, just that it seems a little high compared to BFI's other titles and that 18 pounds takes it out of impulse buy range for me. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of paying $25-30 for US releases either. For a really good movie, a movie I like yeah I'll do it. But you won't find me rushing out to drop 30 bones on Law Abiding Citizen or Ninja Assassin though.

Update:

Quote:
Due to a technical issue, the BFI has had to move back the DVD/Blu-ray release of Yasujiro Ozu’s Tokyo Story and Early Summer from 26 April to 19 July 2010, when they will be released alongside Ozu’s Late Spring. All three titles will appear in the new BFI Dual Format Editions packaging.

hey McCrutchy--any chance that the rest of the bfi titles will be added to the front of the thread?
it would be great to show all the titles that have been released by Bfi--
"regular" as well as Flipside.
anyway, looks very nice.
