Do the BFI actually have plans to release any Kurosawas on Blu do we know? It isn't that long ago that they released all those sets on DVD so I wonder if they do have any plans.

It'd be great if they did though (even though I bought the DVDs). I borrowed the Criterions of Yojimbo and Sanjuro and they look great! I've bought Criterions (and other US releases) before but I find the prices/customs hassle a bit offputting at the moment! It'd certainly be more "convenient" if the BFI released some!

same here, thats why im going for the MoC releases that are avaible and not the more expensiv criterion ones.
but most criterion movies are avaible at ebay.com with a price thats just below custom duty.
price may be a little high cuz of the shipping fee but most titles are avaible for around ~22-25€

thats fine for me to get stuff like seven samurai , kagemusha, pale flower. that just "might" be avaible in europea

The BFI announced a Seven Samurai Blu-Ray for October 2010 then cancelled it.

I'm most frustrated waiting for some Terence Davies Blu-Rays. They have the HD transfers, they have all the DVD extras and they're British - which is means the BFI have an extra incentive to release them - but I always get a "no plans" response to my enquiries.

The BFI have announced that they've got a forthcoming Werner Herzog Collection, with a dual-format release of Aguirre, the Wrath of God confirmed. I'd hazard a guess that this will tie in with the BFI's theatrical re-release of The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser in July.

Here's hoping for a big ol' box of Herzog (fingers and toes crossed). I have faith that BFI will get these right.

Great news Yami, thanks. Here's hoping that theatrical re-release hits my local theatre.

I'd be surprised if there was a box to be honest, considering they didn't do one for Ozu or Cassavetes.

Yes...all of the silent films of Ozu released by BFI (whether as part of the DVD sets and/or with the blu-ray releases) have scores.

Great news on Aguirre, saves me the trouble of getting the German edition.

Unfortunately I kind of doubt the other Kinski/Herzog movies will look much different if BFI decides to release them. The DNR was probably baked into the new HD masters, but one can always hope. At least Aguirre was spared for the most part.

Excellent news. Hopefully Kasper Hauser and Stroszek are not too far off in the pipeline as well.

Yes!
I hope the BFI will a) release a lot of Herzog classics (including films without Kinski) anb b) they will somehow release the Herzog/Kinski films unfiltered (unlike the massive filtered Nosferatu, Woyzeck, Fitzcarraldo + Cobra Verde in Germany).
I already own the German box set but will hapily buy again if the video is superior.
I'm quite happy with Aguire, the other on the other hand...

I'm especially interested in these Herzog films:
- Signs of Life
- Fata Morgana
- The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser
- Heart of Glass
- Lessons of Darkness
- The Wild Blu Yonder

Roberto Ressellini's Journey to Italy heading back to theaters. New restoration by Cineteca di Bologna.

Arguably the very greatest of Rossellini's films, this piercing study of a marriage on the rocks is also one of the cinema's most miraculous love stories.
