Where did you pre-order? I thought that most places ship items separately if the pre-order dates are different.

So apparently it looks like none of the new releases (everything since High and Low and Stray Dog) can be ordered on Amazon from Europe.

I did mention this on the BFI facebook group, and Ben Stoddart said they only have UK rights (basically meaning that their releases are only meant for the UK market) - in the end, he didn’t seem to care all that much

It seems that Signal One is the only UK distributor who ever tried to flag this issue with Amazon (and got it fixed).

Default Slade in Flame / Richard Loncraine / May 2025

Meanwhile...

Described as 'the Citizen Kane of British pop movies' by critic Mark Kermode

Newly remastered by the BFI and presented in High Definition and Standard Definition
Newly recorded audio commentary with director Richard Loncraine and film critic Mark Kermode
Newly recorded interview with Tom Conti (2025)

For legal reasons I'll mention is has Noddy Holder in it.

The BFI will need to fire up those moth-balled pressing plants in Austria and Poland.

90 minutes of Kermode interrupting and talking over Loncraine then is it, I see, like every other commentary he 'moderates'.

Notably the DVD extras haven't been carried over from the previous Union Square releases, which is a big disappointment as they were very substantial boutique-standard affairs. The first release had a 50 minute Noddy Holder interview about the making of the film, and the second had a full, hour long making of documentary featuring the whole band, Loncraine and Conti, for which Holder's contributions were cut in from the earlier interview. And Kermode's in neither of them!

This means all 3 releases have completely different extras. What a mess.

**Booklet update** Our Kurosawa re-releases including a booklet are selling fast.

Ikiru stock in the marketplace still has one, including those units available from the BFI Shop for £14.99! I had the listing edited but can assure you any units they have left inlude a booklet.

High and Low - stock now in warehouse is without a booklet so buy it now if you want a copy with one.

Stray Dog - 2nd pressing due into warehouse 25/02 won't have one, so again, purchasing very soon would be my advice.

Yojimbo & Sanjuro - the first pressing Blu-ray and UHD (booklet and slipcase) will go and probably pretty quickly....

I wish they would put the booklets in PDF form on their site. It really doesn't do anyone good for written material in booklets to just be gone for good after a first pressing.

What if I have "High and Low" and "Stray Dog" paired with a pre-order?
I wonder if I then will have editions with booklets?

I still need to pick up GHOST STORIES FOR CHRISTMAS VOL. 2 (3 x Blu-ray) to go with my VOL.1 but am I right in saying as long as it's available it will definitely have the booklet and slip? I know I got the first one about £5 cheaper than the current price of vol2 so I'm planning to hold out until I see it drop to £20

I don't know why you would assume that. If HMV is an option, you can get it now for a bit less than £21 with the 20% discount.

Make the assumption about booklet and slip? I think the kind of set would ensure every copy is going to include slip and booklet. I've never seen a vol1 without slip and book.

No, I can't use hmv but I'm not going to quibble over £5 so if there was risk in waiting, yes I might just bite the bullet and order soon.

Could be, the listing on BFI's website doesn't make it sound like there's a limited edition. I didn't want to risk it, so I bought it a couple of months ago.

It's currently £22.72 at Rarewaves, and they'll probably have a 10% off coupon the final few days of the month.

I missed Seven Samurai 4K with booklet so will now be pushing the other Kurosawas to the back of my 'to get' list as a result. I have previous releases with a booklet so it's not as though a new one will add much. The other side of pushing for quick buys is that sales will be slower after that, I presume that makes sense for them in the short term for recouping costs but it can be counterproductive in the long run.

I understand all copies of BFI's limited edition of Seven Samurai 4K contain the booklet; it's a boxed edition, with a perfect bound book. And I see that Amazon have it in stock, ready to ship. So you've not missed the boat quite yet, friend!

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seven-Samurai-Limited-4K-UHD/dp/B0DBVJVZ9W/ref=asc_df_B0DBVJVZ9W?mcid=58020a6d08703f128179c1e 2abbfe042&th=1&psc=1&hvocijid=16191776313864724456-B0DBVJVZ9W-&hvexpln=74&tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=696285193871&hvpos=&hvnetw= g&hvrand=16191776313864724456&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqm t=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046885&hv targid=pla-2281435177818&psc=1&gad_source=4

And as for Stray Dog, Ikiru and High and Low, I can speak to the fact that HMV is currently shipping each of them with booklets. I've only just received my copies of each.

So if you really want these titles - with their booklets - then strike now whilst the iron is hot! If you snooze, you'll lose . And enjoy: these really are marvellous editions, that - together with Throne of Blood, Yojimbo, and any other forthcoming releases - will form a fantastic collection of Kurosawa, and a solid cornerstone of any cineaste's collection

I appreciate everything you say, and thank you, but with having these films already (sometimes more than once), it's just the new transfer that matters. I can wait, the BFI can wait. I'm continuing with Flipside releases with a booklet but there's only so much you can spend on getting something you've already got again.

It’s also getting some theatrical play per FDA similar to Big Banana Feet.

Ben posted on the FB group that the Akerman set (limited to 2000) is unlikely to get a standard edition sans booklet.

Lots of different alternative scores out there e.g. The Neverending Story, Dracula, Beauty and the Beast
