Rarewaves have it for just over £20 atm. I bought it in early December and it had the slip and booklet.

Ordered for the BFI blu-ray of High and Low. I will keep my Criterion BD for the fantastic Stephen Prince commentary, but the new 4K resto blows away the 2011 Criterion disc which now looks like it came from a VHS of a 16mm print. Pretty sure the wacky C will do a 4K soon, but since they will in all probability still bundle the same aged BD, I'll pass on that.

Worrying that Akerman Collection: Volume 1 Limited Edition is already **Back in stock soon* at HMV. I can't purchase til end of month. Could their stock really have sold out so soon?

**Back in stock soon* sometimes means temporarily but in the case of LEs it usually means sold out.

I liked it, not nearly as much as I expected considering the hype, but it's a good film.

Are any of the Akerman films being released individually? Dipping into some via the season on at the Southbank atm and wouldn’t mind picking up the ones I’ve seen and liked so far on disc but not keen on the idea of having to get 10 film box sets in order to access the ones I want on disc

Anyone know if Portrait of a Young Girl at the End of the 60s in Brussels will be included as an extra in Chantal Akerman Collection: Vol 2 1982–2015?

Someone asked in the Facebook group a few weeks ago if it's tied up in rights problems because of the soundtrack, and Ben responded:

Quote:
I can't speak to the specifics regards the rights but I know we don't have it under license for home ent. It is screening twice at the BFI Southbank as part of the Chantal Akerman season. But yes, given it was produced by Arte and Sony Music, and includes tracks by the likes of Leonard Cohen, James Brown and Johnny Hallyday, I'd say a commercial Blu-ray release by anyone is seriously unlikely.

Finalized extras for Throne of Blood. I should mention that BFI's 4K page currently lists it as being presented in High Definition, which I assume is a mistake where they're just copy/pasting the info from the Blu-ray page. I've replaced it with the UHD / DV info from the initial announcement.

Quote:
Extras
  • Restored 4K (2160p) UHD Blu-ray presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible)
  • Audio commentary by Japanese film expert Michael Jeck
  • Akira Kurosawa: It is Wonderful to Create – Throne of Blood (2002, 23 mins): this documentary about the making of
  • Throne of Blood features interviews with Akira Kurosawa, production designer Yoshiro Muraki, Noh performer Mitsuhiro Honda (from the Konparu School), and actress Isuzu Yamada
  • Macbeth (1909, 16 mins): transposed from the typical dreich Scottish landscape to medieval Italy, this Italian version has Russian titles, demonstrating how widely exported these films were in the 1900s
  • Macbeth (1945, 16 mins): two scenes from Shakespeare’s famous Scottish tragedy, with Wilfrid Lawson and Cathleen Nesbitt as a fine murderous duo
  • Original trailer
  • **FIRST PRESSING ONLY** Illustrated booklet with writing on the film by Alex Barrett, an essay on Kurosawa’s adaptations of Shakespeare by Ben Nicholson, Kurosawa on Throne of Blood (1964) and an original review

I got All We Imagined as Light today. As always it’s a lovingly assembled edition with interviews and a booklet but to my surprise the feature encode by White Label Media is disappointing. The film looks like it was shot on film but IMDB mentions digital. If true, the film emulation LUT was very convincingly done. That being said, the encode can’t handle the grain at all and sadly large parts of the film are pixel mush in brighter and darker scenes. Grain is buzzy and blocky in motion and even more when paused. I really like BFI’s work and am aware that they’re working with limited budgets but things like that makes it unnecessarily difficult for us potential buyers when debating whether to get their BD or a competitor’s.

That’s a shame to hear - I had meant to look up what this was shot on given how it looked (on cinema watches) - I figured it likely wouldn’t have been film if it was an independent film with a low/modest budget but I did think there was something very nice about how they’d either or both lit the scenes or processed the image in post and that assuming it was shot digitally any effect I was seeing might have been from shooting at a high ISO to give a very (but nicely) digitally ‘noisy’ image (I had to look up what an LUT is off the back of reading your comment so the filmmakers doing that in the context of emulating film never would have occurred to me) that yes on how the light in a lot of the scenes looked gave off a really nice effect, but I’m a total non-expert on these things so have no idea if that will have been the case really
