Silly me, I forgot there are two formats. The regular Blu for me. It's the 4K that's out of stock.

I'd had the delay email from HMV on Friday, but I've just been charged for Yojimbo/Sanjuro 4K so hopefully they have stock for everyone now.

Looks like High and Low on blu sold blazing fast. My copy ordered from Rarewaves less than a month after release arrived sans booklet.

My Yojimbo/Sanjuro was dispatched on Friday from HMV and was due to be delivered on Monday but has stopped in a regional sorting office. From my experience that means it is now "lost" and I will have to begin the tiresome routine of telling the post office that and them telling me to give it a few days before conceding it's "lost".

As BFI warned a month ago:

Ikiru stock in the marketplace still has one, including those units available from the BFI Shop for £14.99! I had the listing edited but can assure you any units they have left inlude a booklet.

High and Low - stock now in warehouse is without a booklet so buy it now if you want a copy with one.

Stray Dog - 2nd pressing due into warehouse 25/02 won't have one, so again, purchasing very soon would be my advice.

Yojimbo & Sanjuro - the first pressing Blu-ray and UHD (booklet and slipcase) will go and probably pretty quickly....

FOMOjimbo. Glad I'm making these Kurosawa releases a priority, they're clearly hot sellers.

Still no Chantal Akerman Collection unboxing videos. I'm curious to see.

Anything in particular you're curious to know? I have it in hand, but don't really do unboxing videos.

It's pretty similar to the Jarman set if you have that one. Slim(ish) hard box, 5 x 7mm thin plastic cases + 72 page perfect bound booklet.

Here's a glimpse of the set from an OrbitDVD listing. This is probably my favorite kind of boxset design. I wish more came like this.

My Akerman vol 1 set has still not been dispatched.

I know there were some delays or printing issues, but I thought they would be sorted by now.

So I watched my copy yesterday, and as I expected, the new resto gives a far more detailed and refined image than the old Criterion blu. The additional surprise is that even the soundscape felt more detailed and immersive, especially the environment effects and the score. This is a must have upgrade for fans of the film. You still need to keep the Criterion blu for the fantastic exclusive extras (Jasper Sharp's commentary on the BFI is nice, but not a patch on Stephen Prince's masterclass on Kurosawa's technique):
Quote:
  • Audio commentary by Akira Kurosawa scholar Stephen Prince
  • Rare video interview with actor Toshiro Mifune
  • Video interview with actor Tsutomu Yamazaki, who plays the kidnapper
  • Theatrical trailers from Japan and the U.S.
  • PLUS: A booklet featuring an essay by critic Geoffrey O'Brien and a reprinted on- set account by Japanese film scholar Donald Richie

Just got the Akerman set in the post (got FOMO so ordered a copy, and hear it's not far from selling out so figured it'd be wise...only 2000 copies so can't really sleep on this one). Nice little set, very shelf-space friendly and competently put together. Treating it as an introduction to Akerman's work, and if I like what I see I'll definitely be picking up the second volume too.
