Yeah it was a surprising price on both pre order volumes. I picked em both up on 10% offer weekends for £40.01 apiece.

Love BFI's package using their slimline cases. That's how to do it.

Give us Herzog’s Nosferatu and Gance’s 482 minute Napoleon or give us death! Well, give us the films at any rate. On 4k.

I'm sure there will be one. Same type used for YoJjimbo I guess. BFI has always included a slipcover for its 4K releases

I managed to get into this, thanks to a friend
[Show spoiler](who’d come across the channel for a weekend of cinema inc. the MI 4 - 6 all nighter at bfi imax)
who ended up ditching the all nighter in favour of going up to queue outside bfi Southbank from 1145pm for any possible (but never guaranteed) returned tickets for the in convo event - cos he queued from so early he managed to get two returned tickets and I was his +1 I ended up giving him my ticket to the TC intro’d Fallout screening that was happening at the bfi imax after the in convo event this eve as thanks so he’ll be there probably enjoying that fantastic helicopter finale at the point of typing this

Saw Return to Oz for its 40th anniversary. A really nice print of the movie. The director was there. I felt it was handled a little poorly though, felt very rushed considering there was so much to talk about.

Naturally, I assume he announced he just recorded a commentary track with Bryan Brown for an upcoming Cocktail 4K?

On the BFI's recent Blu-ray of Brother, upon pressing Play Movie we are treated to a 20-second message stating that the movie contains racism and homophobia, and that the BFI does not 'endorse' nor 'align' with this...

OMG, we have to read a disclaimer. Woe is me, the end is near.

Boooooo. This is completely unnecessary bullshit that has unfortunately taken hold with certain labels (Studiocanal, I’m also looking at you).
It’s a film, stupid.

It’s a ****ing pain in the arse. If I’ve paid for a film I don’t want the screen cluttered with shit when I press play. If they want a disclaimer then stick it on the cover so people can read it before they buy for it.

I'd rather a disclaimer than a censor

What if everyone who is distressed by content warnings on disks put a special badge on their avatar indicating that?

That way we could all be kept in the picture as to their displeasure 24/7, and they could save valuable time freed of the burden of having to keep posting messages telling us (or instead spend it letting us know what they liked or didnt like about the film instead).

Seems like a win-win!

I note that neither you nor any of the resident post-thankers has actually even attempted to mount a defence of the disclaimers. You just complain about the people who don't like them.

As for the suggestion people stop posting their opinions here, you could lead by example?

I assume you're not suggesting that this was at risk of being censored had the BFI not added the disclaimer. The BBFC label (the admittedly small one, on the box) makes no mention of the racism or homophobia. Why doesn't the disclaimer mention all the other sins committed in the movie? Note the film was provided to the BFI by Channel 4, which may explain things...

I never have to read the disclaimer-complaints because they are all in my ignore list. Sometimes I get curious and click "View Post", though.

If disclaimers are the price to be paid for uncensored material then that's something I can live with.

That being said, anyone who is then turned off by said disclaimers, it's a bit late considering they'd have had to buy the film already to even see the warning....

I personally don't have a problem with the disclaimers. The most unexpected place I found one was when watching the original Ducktales on Disney Plus. Not to sy it wasn't unwarranted as there's a bunch of insensitive/stereotyped stuff in there..

Not a completely daft idea (since we often get the option to skip "introductions" before play), but maybe a separate content warning menu option for those who want to see it, otherwise skip it.
